توفي أمس (الثلاثاء) نجم نادي الترسانة ومنتخب مصر السابق مصطفى رياض عن عمر ناهز 86 عاماً، بعد صراع مع المرض، منهياً مسيرة كروية حافلة وضعته بين أبرز هدافي الكرة المصرية في القرن الـ20.
ويُعد رياض أحد الأسماء التي صنعت هوية نادي الترسانة في ستينيات القرن الماضي، وأسهم في تتويجه بلقب الدوري المصري الممتاز موسم 1965-1966، إلى جانب الفوز بكأس مصر عامي 1965 و1967. كما توج بلقب هداف الدوري المصري موسمي 1961-1962 و1963-1964، ودخل «نادي الـ100» بتسجيله 122 هدفاً في المسابقة، ليحتل المركز الخامس في قائمة الهدافين التاريخيين للبطولة.
وعلى الصعيد الدولي، مثّل رياض منتخب مصر في 66 مباراة دولية سجل خلالها 26 هدفاً، وكانت أبرز محطاته حصوله على المركز الثاني في قائمة هدافي دورة الألعاب الأولمبية الصيفية 1964 في طوكيو، بعدما أحرز ثمانية أهداف، ليسهم في احتلال المنتخب المصري المركز الرابع في البطولة.
وشكّل الراحل ثنائياً هجومياً بارزاً مع حسن الشاذلي، في واحدة من أكثر الفترات توهجاً في تاريخ الترسانة والمنتخب المصري، وارتبط اسماهما بمرحلة اتسمت بالغزارة التهديفية والحضور التنافسي محلياً ودولياً.
وبعد اعتزاله اللعب عام 1976، اتجه رياض إلى التدريب، مواصلاً حضوره في المشهد الكروي. ونعى الاتحاد المصري لكرة القدم برئاسة هاني أبو ريدة الفقيد، مشيداً بإسهاماته ومؤكداً أن اسمه سيظل حاضراً في سجلات الكرة المصرية.
وأعلن نادي الترسانة الحداد ثلاثة أيام داخل مقره تقديراً لمسيرة لاعبه التاريخي، على أن تُقام صلاة الجنازة بمسجد مصطفى محمود بالمهندسين، قبل تشييع الجثمان إلى مدافن الأسرة بمدينة السادس من أكتوبر، فيما يُقام العزاء داخل النادي نهاية الأسبوع.
Yesterday (Tuesday), former Al-Tersana Club and Egypt national team star Mustafa Riyad passed away at the age of 86, after a battle with illness, ending a remarkable football career that placed him among the top scorers in Egyptian football in the 20th century.
Riyad is considered one of the names that shaped the identity of Al-Tersana Club in the 1960s, contributing to its winning the Egyptian Premier League title in the 1965-1966 season, along with victories in the Egypt Cup in 1965 and 1967. He also won the title of top scorer in the Egyptian league for the 1961-1962 and 1963-1964 seasons, and entered the "100 Club" by scoring 122 goals in the competition, ranking fifth in the list of all-time top scorers of the tournament.
On the international level, Riyad represented the Egypt national team in 66 international matches, scoring 26 goals. His most notable achievement was finishing second in the list of top scorers at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, where he scored eight goals, helping the Egyptian team secure fourth place in the tournament.
The late player formed a prominent attacking duo with Hassan El-Shazly during one of the brightest periods in the history of Al-Tersana and the Egyptian national team, with their names associated with a phase characterized by prolific scoring and competitive presence both locally and internationally.
After retiring from playing in 1976, Riyad turned to coaching, continuing his presence in the football scene. The Egyptian Football Association, led by Hani Abu Rida, mourned the deceased, praising his contributions and affirming that his name will remain present in the records of Egyptian football.
Al-Tersana Club announced a three-day mourning period at its headquarters in honor of its historic player, with the funeral prayer to be held at Mustafa Mahmoud Mosque in Mohandessin, before the body is laid to rest in the family cemetery in 6th of October City, while condolences will be held at the club at the end of the week.
