20 August 2025 is a special day in the history of football legend and global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who celebrates today the 22nd anniversary of his debut wearing the Portugal national team jersey.
It has been 22 years since the football legend first wore his country's emblem in the match that brought Portugal together with the Kazakhstan national team, where he came on as a substitute for the great star Luis Figo, and Portugal won with a score of (1-0).
Since that date, the legend Cristiano Ronaldo has shattered all records, and football was one thing before him and something completely different after him, as Ronaldo became the most capped player in history with (219 matches) and the all-time top scorer for national teams with (138 goals).
During this journey, Cristiano Ronaldo succeeded in creating a new history for the Portugal national team, which had not won any major title throughout its history, but with Ronaldo, it was different. Portugal reached the final of the UEFA European Championship in 2004 before reaching the semifinals of the 2006 World Cup, and in 2016, the Portuguese experienced a historic moment and the greatest achievement in the country's history when Cristiano Ronaldo lifted the UEFA European Championship trophy as Portugal's first major title, and in 2019 he won the UEFA Nations League with his national team, marking the second major title for Portugal.
Ronaldo led his country through this journey to the World Cup finals in 5 consecutive editions between 2006 and 2022, meaning that Portugal is present in the World Cup as long as Ronaldo is around.
