اعترف اللاعبان الأستراليان كارين باكوس وكلايتون لويس بتورطهما في فضيحة فساد مرتبطة بالمراهنات، بعد أن تلقيا مبالغ مالية من مجرمين مقابل تعمد الحصول على بطاقات صفراء خلال مباريات في الدوري الأسترالي خلال عامي 2023 و2024.
وكشفت التحقيقات أن قائد فريق ماكارثر السابق أوليسيس دافيلا (33 عاماً) لعب دور الوسيط بين اللاعبين وعصابة إجرامية في كولومبيا، حيث نسق عملية التلاعب بالبطاقات، مقابل مبالغ وصلت إلى 10 آلاف دولار أسترالي (6500 دولار أمريكي).
واعترف اللاعبان أمام المحكمة بسلوك أفسد نزاهة المباريات، بينما أُسقطت عنهما تهمة الانضمام إلى جماعة إجرامية، ومن المقرر إصدار الحكم عليهما في سبتمبر القادم.
وقد أوقِف جميع المتورطين عن اللعب، وفسخ نادي ماكارثر عقد دافيلا، في حين استغنى عن باكوس، بينما لا يزال لويس موقوفاً عن النشاط الرياضي.

The Australian players Karen Pakus and Clayton Lewis admitted their involvement in a corruption scandal related to betting, after receiving financial amounts from criminals in exchange for deliberately obtaining yellow cards during matches in the Australian league in 2023 and 2024.
Investigations revealed that former Macarthur team captain Ulysses Davila (33 years old) acted as an intermediary between the players and a criminal gang in Colombia, coordinating the card manipulation process for amounts reaching 10,000 Australian dollars (6,500 US dollars).
The players confessed in court to conduct that undermined the integrity of the matches, while the charge of joining a criminal organization was dropped against them, and their sentencing is scheduled for next September.
All those involved have been suspended from playing, and Macarthur FC terminated Davila's contract, while Pakus was released, and Lewis remains suspended from sporting activities.
