Tonight, the curtain falls on the competitions of the Saudi local tournaments with the final of the most prestigious cup, which brings together Al-Ittihad and Al-Qadisiyah in the King’s Cup, to be held at the Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
Everyone will be eagerly awaiting the anticipated final, which will be under the eyes of all, especially at the end of the Saudi sports season. The Tigers are seeking their second local title this season, while Al-Qadisiyah hopes to achieve their first title in this prestigious tournament, and their first local title after a long absence from achievements and podium finishes in the top competitions of the Premier League.
Although the yellow and red teams meet for the first time in the King’s Cup final, they have previously faced each other in the same tournament during the knockout stage. Al-Qadisiyah has been in several finals, including the final of the Saudi Federation Cup, which they won, and they have reached the final of the Crown Prince Cup multiple times, winning it once.
As for the encounters between the two clubs, they have met four times in the King’s Cup, the last of which was ten years ago.
The first match between them was in 1978 in the quarter-finals, which ended in favor of Al-Qadisiyah with three goals to one for the Tigers. In the semi-finals of the same tournament, they met again in 1986, when the Tigers avenged their loss in the first match between them, winning by one goal to nil. They had the same result in 1988, but in the round of 16, the Tigers defeated Al-Qadisiyah by one goal as well. In their last encounter in the King’s Cup, specifically in 2015, the Tigers won by two goals to one in the quarter-finals.
Thus, their total encounters amount to four, with the Tigers winning three and Al-Qadisiyah winning one match. Today marks their fifth meeting, but this time in the final and in front of a large crowd of Al-Ittihad supporters since the match is on their home ground and among their fans. A few days ago, the Tigers were crowned champions of the Roshen Saudi League.
