يدخل الهلال المواجهة بمعنويات مرتفعة جداً ورغبة كبيرة في الحفاظ على العلامة الكاملة ومطاردة الصدارة؛ حيث يملك في رصيده 6 نقاط كاملة جمعها من انتصارين متتاليين على الغرافة والسد القطريين. في المقابل، يتطلع نادي الشمال القطري إلى استغلال عاملي الأرض والجمهور لتحقيق انتصاره التاريخي اﻷول في المسابقة، إذ يمتلك في رصيده نقطتين فقط بعد أن تعادل في الجولتين الماضيتين، ويبحث عن تدوين انتصاره الأول في المسابقة ﻹنعاش آماله في التأهل.
