With the intellect of computers, the required discipline, and management in the best way, our public sports and important football have risen. Every league has ignited in a revolutionary manner and with immediate decisions. Each ignition has its fuel, and this fuel was a well-studied Saudi composition of bringing in the brightest stars of the round ball, their technical directors, and skilled teams, along with pumping money that attracts wealth, revitalizes conditions, ignites talents, and creates champions. The stands have come to life, outputs have increased, and the passion of players and followers has nearly been quenched. The curiosity of football makers and its legends has awakened, and they wished to be part of this striking scene, a gathering of creativity and enthusiasm. This apparent fuel has been, and still is, precious, large, and magnificent, to the extent that it has concealed and ignited behind it a hidden fuel of another kind, which is the fuel of fair competition among peers (or "derbies" in the common football sense). Yes, the fuel of competition is not new, but the flames of visionary fuel have risen, and the intensity of competition has increased behind it, maturing the recipe of competitions and enhancing its sweetness. Go wherever you wish in the country, and you will find a blazing race, an unusual momentum that gifts you enjoyment and creates history and glory.
O lovers of the round ball, the examples are many, and their results are exciting. Who would have expected that Al-Khulood Club would one day play in the final of the King’s Cup? It came from the back doors of Al-Rass, surpassing its counterpart Al-Hazm, which had its own achievements in past years, saying, "Here I am." Why not! The glory that Al-Faisaly Club from Al-Majma'ah created is not far from us when it was crowned with the King’s Cup, which ignited the spirit of its counterpart Al-Faihah and sparked enthusiasm in its corridors until it snatched the precious cup. Oh, the cleverness of the two neighbors and the celebration of Al-Majma'ah Governorate for both. Here, one might ask and say that Al-Khulood Club reached what it has due to the foreign investor. We say to him, where is this foreign investor from the achievements of Al-Faisaly, Al-Faihah, or Al-Taawun and Al-Wahda when obtaining the cup or reaching the final? Rather, it is the spirit of fair competition that the investor may add to what he can contribute.
As for the four big clubs, here is Al-Ittihad pushing Al-Ahli to return from the stumble of relegation to the first division to winning the Asian Elite League twice in a row. As for the competition between the capital's poles, Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal, every encounter between them is akin to a battle for making history and proving strength and control, as well as being another social fruit that combines entertaining banter and enjoying watching matches. Notice here that I started writing with Al-Nasr before Al-Hilal, taking the principle of arranging letters alphabetically, first the 'n' then the 'h'. I raise here the flag of rescuing commentators on matches and sports content writers and those working in sports programs so that they do not force themselves to repeat the phrase "Al-Hilal and Al-Nasr or Al-Nasr and Al-Hilal" many times, as the listener may be bored. What is the point of repeating it when there is a solution? The principle of ordering according to the priority of the letters of the alphabet relieves everyone in many fields and in all languages.
Examples of beautiful and enjoyable competition among football peers continue, as if one is pushing the other without feeling to exchange roles to achieve glory. A simple review of the recent past years will provide us with enough evidence. Who other than Najran pushed Al-Akhdoode until it became a guardian of its dream? Who brought Al-Qaisumah from Hafr Al-Batin to the knockout stages of the King’s Cup if not by monitoring the previous rounds that Al-Batin Club played in the Premier League? Who kept Dhamk for years influencing the results of the Premier League other than the beautiful Abha? And who shook Al-Jabalain in an attempt to rise other than the generosity of competition with Al-Tai in Hail? Who demonstrated the justice of Al-Ahsa and opened a space for proving existence other than the boldness of Al-Fateh Club after raising the exemplary cup? Who stirred the dust of the Al-Qadisiyah battle in the Eastern Province other than the points of Al-Ittifaq? And in Al-Qassim, who stabilized the feet of Al-Taawun among the feet of the giants other than the challenge of Al-Ra'ed? And who restored the shine of Al-Najma other than the dream of Al-Arabi? Who lit the lights between Al-Hawta and Al-Kharj other than the glow of Al-Shu'lah and the persistence of the planet in orbit? Is there more? The answer is yes, but I beg your pardon as it is difficult to enumerate examples of competition; some, as you have seen, are witnessed and tangible, while others are not studied. But follow closely or from afar nearly one hundred and seventy clubs in their ranking from the Premier League down to the fourth division and in various categories, and you will see peers side by side in a fierce race.
Despite our celebration of this competition that delights souls, we must warn, especially in the digital space, against the transformation of joy into envy that charges souls, stirs hatred, enters into intentions, leads to weaving conspiracies, and turns matters into a long-lasting verbal war that may transfer to the younger generation, making them accustomed to its presence, thus stripping them of sportsmanship or causing them to shy away from sports altogether. To combat this detestable trend, we must always show transparency as much as possible, raise awareness, and curb the excesses of the abusers.
We do not overlook other motives that have increased this commendable competition, including government financial support that has doubled the ability of some clubs to compete and enabled other clubs to rise to compete. In this context, the increase in the value of tournament prizes is also significant. Additionally, the desire of players to stand out among their peers, delight their families and loved ones, and seek financial gain is a driving factor. The role of investment and investors, their eagerness to conclude sponsorship contracts, or perhaps thinking in the future about listing clubs in the stock market, is also a factor. Furthermore, the desire of club founders and fans to elevate the name of the club has been evident as they have creatively crafted new chants and raised loyalty banners in the stands, despite the need for development, such as regulating the use of annoying loudspeakers and drums, especially in matches with lower attendance. We must not forget the effort exerted by presidents and those working in the management of those clubs when they utilized that competition and enthusiasm to achieve those accomplishments.
In conclusion, I do not have details about all the commendable efforts in the Ministry of Sports or in the sports federations, but this is a desired proposal that may yield high returns to work on performance and competitiveness indicators in all sports competitions based on studied criteria to create databases and graphs that stimulate this competition and assist in making various decisions. These indicators can be published publicly, while some may remain undisclosed for administrative reasons. These indicators should be diverse as they will provide a clearer picture of the performance level of clubs, players, coaches, and referees, and thus will accurately and continuously reflect the contributions of clubs or the market value of players and their eligibility to join national teams. This will facilitate clubs in selecting competent coaches and for the referees' committee to identify suitable referees to manage sensitive matches. With this proposal, efforts will not be wasted, rights will be preserved, and levels will rise. On another note, it would be beneficial to create a digital geographical map of the Saudi sports climate, if you will, reflecting everything related to sports, from club locations to official and community activities, such as the presence of sports paths in neighborhoods and the number of practicing athletes. The ministry can benefit administratively from this map and assist several entities, such as the Ministry of Health to determine awareness campaigns or city planners to distribute suitable projects in the right places. I hope the Ministry of Sports studies these proposals and attempts to implement them, then adopts them as an ambitious initiative to elevate it to FIFA and the International Olympic Committee, hoping it resonates and achieves benefits at the international sports level. Please accept my regards and wishes for success to the competitors.
