The Ministry of Health has reported an increase in respiratory infection cases, coinciding with the onset of the respiratory virus season. It clarified that this rise is part of the expected seasonal activity, urging individuals to receive the recommended vaccines, including the seasonal flu vaccine and the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine for the targeted groups, by scheduling an appointment through the "Sehati" app; which contributes to reducing the likelihood of severe illness and complications associated with the infection.
Enhancing Prevention
The Ministry of Health stated that the past three weeks have witnessed an approximately 30% increase in intensive care admissions related to respiratory infections compared to the previous period, alongside an increase in the activity of several respiratory viruses during the season.
The ministry emphasized the importance of enhancing prevention by maintaining hand hygiene, adhering to cough and sneeze etiquette, ventilating closed spaces, wearing masks, and reducing contact with others when respiratory symptoms appear; in order to protect public health and limit the spread of infection.
Most Vulnerable Groups
The most vulnerable groups to flu complications include individuals with chronic diseases, people over the age of 50, children aged 6 months to 5 years, pregnant women, and those with obesity, in addition to healthcare workers.
The Ministry of Health continues its efforts in collaboration with health system entities to enhance preventive health and raise health awareness, contributing to the protection of the health and safety of community members and improving their quality of life.
