استغربت الجماهير الرياضية بمختلف شتى العالم التنقلات السريعة الخاصة برئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) جياني إنفانتينو، وأثار الجدل بحضوره مباراتين يومياً في كأس العالم، ما أثار تساؤلات بشأن كيفية تنقله بين المدن والدول المستضيفة رغم المسافات التي تفصل بينها.
وظهر إنفانتينو في مباراة أسكتلندا ضد المغرب في بوسطن قبل أن يحضر مباراة البرازيل وهايتي التي بدأت بعد المباراة الأولى بنصف ساعة تقريباً في فيلادلفيا.
وكان إنفانتينو في مكسيكو سيتي يوم 11 يونيو لحضور المباراة الافتتاحية بين المكسيك وجنوب أفريقيا على ملعب أزتيكا، قبل أن يتوجه في وقت لاحق من اليوم نفسه إلى غوادالاخارا لمتابعة مباراة كوريا الجنوبية وجمهورية التشيك، على الرغم من أن الرحلة الجوية تستغرق بين المدينتين المكسيكيتين، اللتين تفصل بينهما مسافة 285 ميلاً، أكثر من ساعة.
وفي اليوم التالي، اكتفى إنفانتينو بحضور مباراة الولايات المتحدة والباراغواي على ملعب صوفي في لوس أنجلوس، حيث ظهر إلى جانب وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو.
لكن يوم السبت شهد عودته إلى حضور مباراتين، إذ تابع تعادل قطر وسويسرا 1-1 في سان فرانسيسكو، ثم انتقل مساء إلى فانكوفر لمشاهدة فوز أستراليا على تركيا.
أما يوم الأحد فخصصه للمشاركة في قمة فيفا، وهي اجتماع للاتحادات الأعضاء، أقيم في فندق ريتز كارلتون في ساوث بيتش بميامي. ووصل صباحاً في سيارة رياضية سوداء برفقة موكب شرطة، وغادر بالطريقة نفسها في فترة ما بعد الظهر.
وفي يوم الاثنين سافر إنفانتينو إلى سياتل لحضور مباراة بلجيكا ومصر، قبل أن يتوجه جواً إلى لوس أنجلوس لمتابعة مباراة إيران ونيوزيلندا في وقت لاحق من الليلة نفسها.
The sports fans around the world were astonished by the rapid movements of FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who sparked controversy by attending two matches a day during the World Cup, raising questions about how he managed to travel between the host cities and countries despite the distances separating them.
Infantino appeared at the Scotland vs. Morocco match in Boston before attending the Brazil vs. Haiti match, which started about half an hour after the first match in Philadelphia.
On June 11, Infantino was in Mexico City to attend the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium, before heading later that same day to Guadalajara to watch the South Korea vs. Czech Republic match, despite the fact that the flight between the two Mexican cities, which are 285 miles apart, takes over an hour.
The next day, Infantino only attended the match between the United States and Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, where he was seen alongside U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
However, Saturday saw his return to attending two matches, as he watched the Qatar vs. Switzerland 1-1 draw in San Francisco, then moved in the evening to Vancouver to see Australia defeat Turkey.
On Sunday, he dedicated his time to participating in the FIFA summit, a meeting of member associations, held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in South Beach, Miami. He arrived in the morning in a black sports car accompanied by a police escort, and left in the same manner in the afternoon.
On Monday, Infantino traveled to Seattle to attend the Belgium vs. Egypt match, before flying to Los Angeles to watch the Iran vs. New Zealand match later that same night.
