رفض رئيس الاتحاد الفلسطيني لكرة القدم جبريل الرجوب مصافحة نائب رئيس الاتحاد الإسرائيلي باسم الشيخ سليمان، رغم إلحاح شديد من رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا) جياني إنفانتينو، في لحظة متوترة أثارت انتباه الوفود المشاركة في المؤتمر السنوي للفيفا (الكونغرس 76).
وقعت الواقعة، أمس الخميس، في مدينة فانكوفر الكندية، إذ استدعى إنفانتينو الرجوب وسليمان إلى المنصة الرئيسية بعد كلماتهما أمام المؤتمر، في محاولة للجمع بينهما وتعزيز صورة «الوحدة والتعاون» على حد وصفه.
ووضع إنفانتينو يده على ذراع الرجوب ودعاه مرات عدة للاقتراب ومصافحة نظيره الإسرائيلي، لكن الرجوب رفض الاقتراب أو المصافحة، وغادر المنصة وسط احتجاج واضح.
وفي تصريحات لاحقة، أوضح الرجوب موقفه قائلاً إنه لا يستطيع مصافحة شخص يمثل «حكومة فاشية وعنصرية»، معتبراً أن الرياضة يجب أن لا تُستخدم لـ«تبييض» السياسات التي يتعرض لها الشعب الفلسطيني، مؤكداً أن «الكرامة الوطنية» تأتي قبل أي لقطة بروتوكولية.
من جانبها، قالت نائبة رئيس الاتحاد الفلسطيني سوزان شلبي إن الرفض جاء احتجاجاً على محاولات «تبييض الفاشية والإبادة»، مشيرة إلى أن مثل هذه الدعوة تنفي جوهر الكلمة التي ألقاها الرجوب حول معاناة الرياضة الفلسطينية.
يأتي هذا الموقف في سياق التوترات المستمرة بين الاتحادين داخل الفيفا، إذ يطالب الجانب الفلسطيني باتخاذ إجراءات ضد الأندية الإسرائيلية التي تنشط في المستوطنات بالضفة الغربية.
ويتولى جبريل الرجوب، القيادي البارز في حركة فتح، رئاسة الاتحاد الفلسطيني لكرة القدم منذ سنوات، ويُعرف بمواقفه السياسية الحازمة تجاه الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، إذ سبق له أن هدّد بانسحاب فلسطين من الفيفا إذا لم تُتخذ إجراءات ضد إسرائيل بسبب «الانتهاكات الممنهجة» ضد الرياضة الفلسطينية، بما في ذلك تقييد حركة اللاعبين والحكام، وتدمير المنشآت الرياضية.
يأتي الحدث قبل أشهر قليلة من انطلاق كأس العالم 2026، التي تستضيفها الولايات المتحدة وكندا والمكسيك، وفي وقت يستمر فيه الاتحاد الفلسطيني في رفع قضايا إلى محكمة التحكيم الرياضية ضد قرارات الفيفا المتعلقة بإسرائيل.
The President of the Palestinian Football Association, Jibril Rajoub, refused to shake hands with the Vice President of the Israeli Football Association, Bassem Sheikh Suleiman, despite intense urging from FIFA President Gianni Infantino, in a tense moment that drew the attention of the delegations attending FIFA's annual conference (Congress 76).
The incident occurred yesterday, Thursday, in Vancouver, Canada, where Infantino called Rajoub and Suleiman to the main platform after their speeches at the conference, in an attempt to bring them together and promote the image of "unity and cooperation," as he described it.
Infantino placed his hand on Rajoub's arm and urged him several times to approach and shake hands with his Israeli counterpart, but Rajoub refused to come closer or shake hands, leaving the platform amid clear protest.
In subsequent statements, Rajoub clarified his position, stating that he cannot shake hands with someone who represents a "fascist and racist government," considering that sports should not be used to "whitewash" the policies faced by the Palestinian people, emphasizing that "national dignity" comes before any protocol moment.
For her part, the Vice President of the Palestinian Association, Susan Shalabi, stated that the refusal was a protest against attempts to "whitewash fascism and genocide," noting that such a call negates the essence of the speech Rajoub delivered about the suffering of Palestinian sports.
This stance comes in the context of ongoing tensions between the two associations within FIFA, as the Palestinian side demands action against Israeli clubs operating in settlements in the West Bank.
Jibril Rajoub, a prominent leader in the Fatah movement, has been the President of the Palestinian Football Association for years and is known for his firm political positions regarding the Israeli occupation. He has previously threatened that Palestine would withdraw from FIFA if no action is taken against Israel due to "systematic violations" against Palestinian sports, including restricting the movement of players and referees and destroying sports facilities.
The event comes just a few months before the start of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, at a time when the Palestinian Association continues to raise cases to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against FIFA's decisions related to Israel.
