طالب إيدي هاو مدرب نيوكاسل يونايتد الإنجليزي، لاعبيه، بضرورة اغتنام الفرصة والسير على خطى الفريق الذي هزم برشلونة في عام 1997.
ويستضيف نيوكاسل نظيره برشلونة اليوم (الثلاثاء) في ذهاب دور الـ16 لدوري أبطال أوروبا على ملعب سانت جيمس بارك.
وتعيد هذه المواجهة للأذهان فوز نيوكاسل على برشلونة بنتيجة 3 - 2 في النظام القديم لمجموعات دوري الأبطال، بفضل ثلاثية من تينو أسبريا، وكان هاو لاعباً في بورنموث.
وقال هاو في مؤتمر صحفي، الإثنين: «لم يكن من الممكن تفويت مشاهدة هذه المباراة، لقد كانت مواجهة أسطورية تم بثها على التلفزيون الأرضي».
وأضاف: «نريد أن يتحدث الناس عن فريقنا الحالي لسنوات قادمة، فالكل يتذكر أن تينو أسبريا أحرز ثلاثية؛ اثنان منها من تمريرات كيث غيليسبي من الجهة اليمنى».
وتابع في تصريحات أبرزتها هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية (بي بي سي): «أتطلع أيضاً إلى أن يتحدث الجميع عن فريقي بالطريقة نفسها بعد 20 أو 30 أو 40 عاماً».
وسبق أن التقى برشلونة ونيوكاسل في دور المجموعات في سبتمبر (أيلول) الماضي، حيث خسر الفريق الإنجليزي على أرضه بنتيجة 1 - 2.
واستخلص هاو بعض الإيجابيات من تلك الخسارة، قائلاً إن مباراة اليوم هي أهم مباراة في تاريخ نيوكاسل الحديث الذي يتطلع للتأهل لدور الثمانية لأول مرة في تاريخه.
وختم مدرب نيوكاسل: «يجب أن نستغل هذه الفرصة، لأنها لا تتكرر، ولا أحد يعلم ماذا سيحدث غداً، فما بالكم بالمواسم القادمة، لا نريد إضاعة هذه الفرصة أو نشعر بالندم عليها لاحقاً».

Newcastle hosts Barcelona today (Tuesday) in the first leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League at St. James' Park.
This matchup brings to mind Newcastle's victory over Barcelona with a score of 3 - 2 in the old group stage format of the Champions League, thanks to a hat-trick from Tino Asprilla, while Howe was a player at Bournemouth.
Howe said at a press conference on Monday: "It was impossible to miss watching that match; it was an iconic encounter that was broadcast on terrestrial television."
He added: "We want people to talk about our current team for years to come; everyone remembers that Tino Asprilla scored a hat-trick, two of which came from Keith Gillespie's crosses from the right."
He continued in remarks highlighted by the BBC: "I also look forward to everyone talking about my team in the same way in 20, 30, or 40 years."
Barcelona and Newcastle previously met in the group stage last September, where the English team lost at home 1 - 2.
Howe drew some positives from that defeat, stating that today's match is the most important game in Newcastle's modern history as they aim to qualify for the quarter-finals for the first time.
Newcastle's manager concluded: "We must take advantage of this opportunity, as it does not come around often, and no one knows what will happen tomorrow, let alone in the coming seasons; we do not want to waste this chance or feel regret about it later."
