فاجأ مدرب الاتحاد سيرجيو كونسيساو المتابعين بحديثه عقب خسارة فريقه في الديربي أمام الأهلي بنتيجة (3-1)، في المباراة التي جمعتهما، على ملعب مدينة الملك عبدالله الرياضية بجدة، ضمن منافسات قمة الجولة الـ(25) من الدوري السعودي للمحترفين (دوري روشن).
إذ أرجع أحد أسباب الخسارة إلى قدرة لاعبي الأهلي على إخراج لاعبيه ذهنياً من المباراة، قائلاً : لاعبي الأهلي نجحوا في «استفزاز» لاعبينا، استطاعوا إخراجنا ذهنيا في الأوقات التي من المفترض أن نضبط أنفسنا فيها وللأسف وقعنا في الفخ!
وجاء التصريح غريبا في شكله ومضمونه، حيث يؤكد على فشل المدرب البرتغالي في تحضير لاعبيه ذهنيا قبل مواجهة كبرى تتطلب جاهزية تامة على كافة المستويات، خصوصا أنه يقود فريقا يضم نجوما على مستوى عال ومن المفترض عدم انهزامهم ذهنيا بسهولة وخروجهم من أجواء المباراة.
يذكر أن كونسيساو يقود الاتحاد منذ أكتوبر 2025 خلفا للفرنسي لوران بلان ولم ينجح حتى اللحظة في تحقيق تحسن ملوحظ في مركز الاتحاد في دوري روشن الذي يقع في متوسط الترتيب، بينما نجح في الوصول إلى دور 16 من دوري أبطال آسيا للنخبة وتأهل إلى نصف نهائي كأس خادم الحرمين الشريفين.
Union coach Sergio Conceição surprised followers with his comments after his team's loss in the derby against Al-Ahli with a score of (3-1) in the match held at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the top match of the 25th round of the Saudi Pro League (Roshen League).
He attributed one of the reasons for the loss to the ability of Al-Ahli players to mentally unsettle his players, saying: "Al-Ahli players succeeded in 'provoking' our players; they managed to take us out mentally at times when we should have kept our composure, and unfortunately, we fell into the trap!"
The statement came across as strange in both form and content, as it highlights the Portuguese coach's failure to mentally prepare his players before a major match that requires complete readiness on all levels, especially since he leads a team that includes high-caliber stars who should not easily succumb mentally and lose focus during the game.
It is worth noting that Conceição has been leading Union since October 2025, succeeding Frenchman Laurent Blanc, and has not yet succeeded in achieving a noticeable improvement in Union's position in the Roshen League, which is currently mid-table, while he has managed to reach the Round of 16 in the AFC Champions League and qualified for the semi-finals of the King's Cup.
