بعد 24 ساعة من خسارة المنتخب السعودي الأول من شقيقه الأردني بهدف دون مقابل، في اللقاء الذي جمعهما على استاد البيت، ضمن مواجهات الدور نصف نهائي بطولة كأس العرب، وفقدانه فرصة المنافسه على اللقب، توج منتخب تحت 23 عاماً بكأس الخليج تحت 23 عاماً في قطر، عقب الانتصار على منتخب العراق بهدفين مقابل لا شيء، سجلهما الثنائي عبدالرحمن العبيد في (الدقيقة 23)، وعبدالعزيز العليوة في (الدقيقة 49)، في المباراة النهائية التي أقيمت على استاد (974) في الدوحة.
وحصد نجما الأخضر حامد يوسف أحسن حارس، وعبدالعزيز العليوة أفضل لاعب، وحصل مهاجم منتخب قطر مصطفى السيد على لقب هداف البطولة.
وكان المنتخب السعودي استهل مشواره في البطولة بثلاث مباريات في دور المجموعات؛ الأولى بالفوز على منتخب البحرين بخماسية نظيفة، والثانية كسب منتخب الكويت بهدف مقابل لا شيء، والثالثة أمام منتخب قطر وانتهى اللقاء بالتعادل الإيجابي 1/1، وتصدر المجموعة الأولى بـ7 نقاط، وتجاوز «الأخضر الأولمبي» المنتخب الإماراتي في دور نصف النهائي عقب الانتصار بهدفين مقابل لا شيء، وتأهل لمواجهة العراق في المباراة النهائية وحقق الفوز بهدفين مقابل لا شيء وحصد الكأس الخليجية.
After 24 hours of the Saudi national team's loss to their Jordanian counterpart by a goal to nil, in the match held at Al Bayt Stadium, as part of the semi-final round of the Arab Cup, and losing the chance to compete for the title, the under-23 team was crowned the Gulf Cup under 23 in Qatar, following their victory over the Iraqi team with two goals to none, scored by the duo Abdulrahman Al-Obaid in the (23rd minute) and Abdulaziz Al-Aliwa in the (49th minute), in the final match held at (974) Stadium in Doha.
The stars of the Green team, Hamid Yusuf, won the Best Goalkeeper award, and Abdulaziz Al-Aliwa was named Best Player, while Qatar's striker Mustafa Al-Sayed received the title of top scorer of the tournament.
The Saudi team started their journey in the tournament with three matches in the group stage; the first was a victory over the Bahrain team with a clean five-goal sweep, the second was a win against the Kuwait team by one goal to none, and the third was against the Qatar team, which ended in a positive draw of 1/1. They topped Group A with 7 points, and the "Olympic Green" team overcame the Emirati team in the semi-finals after winning two goals to none, qualifying to face Iraq in the final match where they achieved victory with two goals to none and claimed the Gulf Cup.
