رفع الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب دعوى قضائية ضد هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية بي بي سي يطالب فيها بتعويض قدره 10 مليارات دولار، متهما المؤسسة بالتشهير نتيجة تعديل محتوى خطابه في 6 يناير.
وفي التفاصيل، فقد أقام ترمب، الإثنين، دعوى قضائية على هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية، يطالبها فيها بتعويض لا يقل عن 10 مليارات دولار، وفق وثيقة رسمية من المحكمة، بعد اتهامها بالتشهير عبر توليف مقطع مضلل. وتطالب الدعوى القضائية التي أقامها ترمب في فلوريدا بالحصول على «تعويضات لا تقل عن 5 مليارات دولار» عن كل من تهمتي التشهير وانتهاك قانون بشأن الممارسات التجارية الخادعة وغير العادلة. وكانت «بي بي سي» قدمت اعتذارا، بسبب «توليف» خطاب لترمب أعطى انطباعا في وثائقي بأنه دعا إلى «عمل عنيف»، قبيل اقتحام أنصاره مقر الكونغرس في السادس من يناير 2021. وبثت «بي بي سي» جزءا من الخطاب طلب فيه من أنصاره الخروج في مسيرة إلى مبنى الكونغرس، وآخر قال فيه «قاتلوا بشراسة»، بينما حذفت مقطعا دعا فيه إلى الاحتجاج السلمي.
يشار إلى أنه في 6 يناير 2021 اقتحم أنصار ترمب مبنى الكونغرس في واشنطن أثناء جلسة المصادقة على نتائج الانتخابات الرئاسية.

The lawsuit filed by Trump in Florida seeks "damages of no less than $5 billion" for both defamation and violation of a law regarding deceptive and unfair business practices. The BBC had issued an apology for "editing" Trump's speech, which gave the impression in a documentary that he called for "violent action" just before his supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021. The BBC aired part of the speech in which he urged his supporters to march to the Capitol building, and another part where he said, "Fight like hell," while omitting a segment where he called for peaceful protest.
It is worth noting that on January 6, 2021, Trump's supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington during the session to certify the presidential election results.
