The Saudi ambassador to Yemen, Mohammed Al-Jaber, announced the cleansing of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from remnants of the Houthi militia. He wrote in a tweet on the "X" platform today (Friday): "Bab el-Mandeb has been cleansed of the remnants of the terrorist Houthi militia," in a development that highlights the importance of securing one of the most prominent strategic maritime passages in the region.
These statements come in light of the strategic importance of the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean. It is considered a vital passage for international trade and energy supplies, in addition to its pivotal role in maritime navigation between Asia and Europe via the Suez Canal.
The security of the strait has garnered increasing regional and international interest, given the risks threatening maritime shipping routes due to security and military tensions in Yemen and the region, which could lead to disruptions in shipping traffic and increased shipping and insurance costs. Securing Bab el-Mandeb is viewed as an essential part of efforts to protect international navigation and maintain stability in the Red Sea, due to its direct implications for regional security and the global economy.
On another note, the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the two attacks carried out by the Houthi militia targeting King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in the martyrdom of three citizens and several injuries. It affirmed that the attack is a blatant violation of Saudi sovereignty, a threat to its security and stability, and a flagrant breach of international law and the United Nations Charter. The ministry reiterated Jordan's condemnation of the attacks on Saudi Arabia and its civilian and economic entities, expressing its full solidarity with the Kingdom and its support for all measures it takes to protect its security, stability, resources, and the safety of its citizens and residents.
