ذكرت صحيفة «ديلي ميل» أن نادي مانشستر يونايتد أقر خطة تطوير واسعة تشمل إعادة تصميم ملعبه التاريخي أولد ترافورد، ليصبح من أكبر وأطول المشاريع العمرانية في المملكة المتحدة.
ووفقاً للتقارير، سترتفع سعة الملعب بعد التجديد إلى 100 ألف متفرج، وسيُقام نحو 15 ألف منزل جديد حول المنطقة، إضافة إلى إنشاء مراكز ترفيهية وتجارية حديثة. ووصف عمدة مانشستر أندي بيرنهام المشروع بأنه «الأكبر في المملكة منذ أولمبياد 2012». وخصصت الدفعة الأولى من الميزانية نحو 26 مليون جنيه باوند لبدء الأعمال، علماً أن أولد ترافورد يستضيف مباريات الشياطين الحمر منذ عام 1910، بسعة حالية تبلغ 74,310 مقاعد.
ويعتبر ملعب أولد ترافورد ملعباً تاريخياً في إنجلترا، إذ استضاف عدداً من الأحداث التاريخية كان أهمها استضافة مباريات في مونديال 1966، ومباريات من كأس أمم أوروبا 1996، ونهائي دوري أبطال أوروبا 2003 بين يوفنتوس وميلان، ومباريات من دورة الألعاب الأولمبية 2012.
The "Daily Mail" reported that Manchester United has approved an extensive development plan that includes redesigning its historic stadium, Old Trafford, making it one of the largest and longest construction projects in the United Kingdom.
According to reports, the stadium's capacity will increase to 100,000 spectators after the renovation, with around 15,000 new homes to be built in the area, in addition to the establishment of modern recreational and commercial centers. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham described the project as "the largest in the country since the 2012 Olympics." The first installment of the budget has allocated about £26 million to start the work, noting that Old Trafford has hosted matches for the Red Devils since 1910, with a current capacity of 74,310 seats.
Old Trafford is considered a historic stadium in England, having hosted a number of significant events, the most notable of which include matches in the 1966 World Cup, matches from the UEFA Euro 1996, the 2003 UEFA Champions League final between Juventus and Milan, and matches from the 2012 Olympic Games.
