أعلن الاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم وفاة كامبيز أتاباي ، الرئيس السابق للاتحاد والاسم البارز في تاريخ الكرة الإيرانية، عن عمر ناهز 86 عامًا.
قاد أتاباي الكرة الإيرانية خلال فترة ذهبية بين عامَي 1972 و1978بعدما كان رئيسا لاتحاد الكرة الايراني ، حيث حقق المنتخب الإيراني لقبه الآسيوي الثالث تواليًا عام 1976، وذهبية الألعاب الآسيوية 1974 بطهران، إضافة إلى التأهل لكأس العالم 1978 للمرة الأولى.
وفي 1977، تم انتخابه رئيسًا بالإنابة للاتحاد الآسيوي، ليصبح الإيراني الوحيد الذي تولّى هذا المنصب.
وغادر أتاباي بلاده بعد الثورة عام 1979، متوليًا لاحقًا إدارة مكتب الشهبانو فرح ديبا في نيويورك.
رئيس الاتحاد الآسيوي سلمان بن إبراهيم آل خليفة قدّم تعازيه، مشيدًا بإرث الراحل وعطائه لكرة آسيا.
The Asian Football Confederation announced the death of Kambiz Atabai, the former president of the federation and a prominent name in the history of Iranian football, at the age of 86.
Atabai led Iranian football during a golden period between 1972 and 1978 after serving as the president of the Iranian Football Federation, during which the Iranian national team achieved its third consecutive Asian title in 1976, won the gold medal at the 1974 Asian Games in Tehran, and qualified for the World Cup in 1978 for the first time.
In 1977, he was elected as the acting president of the Asian Football Confederation, becoming the only Iranian to hold this position.
Atabai left his country after the revolution in 1979, later taking over the management of the office of Shahbanu Farah Diba in New York.
The president of the Asian Football Confederation, Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, offered his condolences, praising the legacy of the late Atabai and his contributions to Asian football.
