وصف الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب حكم المحكمة العليا بإلغاء الرسوم الجمركية بأنه «مخيب للآمال للغاية»، معرباً عن استيائه من بعض قضاة المحكمة.
وقال ترمب في مؤتمر صحفي بعد ساعات من صدور الحكم اليوم (الجمعة)، إنه يشعر بالخجل من بعض القضاة لعدم امتلاكهم الشجاعة لفعل ما اعتبره صواباً لمصلحة الولايات المتحدة، معتبراً أن القرار «يقف ضد ما يجعل أمريكا قوية وصحية وعظيمة مجدداً».
وفي المقابل، أشاد بالقضاة الثلاثة الذين عارضوا الحكم، وأضاف أن من صوّتوا لإبطال الرسوم يمثلون، بحسب وصفه، وصمة عار على الأمة، واصفاً مواقفهم بأنها رفض تلقائي لأي خطوة تعزز قوة الولايات المتحدة.
وأشار ترمب إلى إن دولاً أجنبية تحتفل بقرار المحكمة، معتبراً أنها كانت تستفيد من السياسات التجارية السابقة على حساب الولايات المتحدة، لكنه أكد أن هذا الاحتفال «لن يدوم طويلاً».
وادعى، من دون تقديم أدلة، أن المحكمة تأثرت بمصالح أجنبية وبحركة سياسية وصفها بأنها أصغر بكثير مما يعتقده البعض، مؤكداً أن إدارته ستلجأ إلى بدائل أخرى لتعويض الرسوم التي تم إبطالها.
U.S. President Donald Trump described the Supreme Court's ruling to overturn the tariffs as "extremely disappointing," expressing his displeasure with some of the court's justices.
Trump said at a press conference hours after the ruling was issued today (Friday) that he feels ashamed of some justices for lacking the courage to do what he deemed right for the benefit of the United States, considering the decision "stands against what makes America strong, healthy, and great again."
In contrast, he praised the three justices who opposed the ruling, adding that those who voted to overturn the tariffs represent, in his words, a stain on the nation, describing their positions as a reflexive rejection of any step that strengthens the United States.
Trump pointed out that foreign countries are celebrating the court's decision, considering that they have benefited from previous trade policies at the expense of the United States, but he emphasized that this celebration "will not last long."
He claimed, without providing evidence, that the court was influenced by foreign interests and a political movement that he described as much smaller than some believe, asserting that his administration will seek other alternatives to compensate for the overturned tariffs.
