ألغت المحكمة العليا الأمريكية الرسوم الجمركية التي فرضتها إدارة الرئيس «دونالد ترمب» على أغلب دول العالم، مما يوجه ضربة قوية للأجندة التجارية التي يتبناها البيت الأبيض.
وصوت 6 قضاة في المحكمة مقابل 3 لصالح عدم قانونية الرسوم الجمركية التي فرضها «ترمب» بموجب قانون سلطات الطوارئ الاقتصادية الدولية، حيث قالت المحكمة إن الرئيس لا يُخول له فرض تعريفات على الواردات.
وتشمل التعريفات التي ألغتها المحكمة العليا الرسوم العالمية التي فرضتها إدارة «ترمب» تحت بند المعاملة بالمثل في أبريل، بالإضافة إلى رسوم أخرى متعلقة بتهريب المخدرات إلى الولايات المتحدة.
وجاءت أغلبية إيرادات الرسوم الجمركية الأمريكية التي جُمعت العام الماضي من التعريفات التي فُرضت بموجب قانون سلطات الطوارئ الاقتصادية الدولية.
حيث ذكرت إدارة الجمارك الأمريكية، أنها جمعت حوالى 129 مليار دولار من الرسوم التي فُرضت بموجب القانون منذ تولي الرئيس «دونالد ترمب» السلطة وحتى 10 ديسمبر.
The U.S. Supreme Court has struck down the tariffs imposed by President "Donald Trump" on most countries around the world, delivering a significant blow to the trade agenda advocated by the White House.
Six justices voted in favor of the illegality of the tariffs imposed by "Trump" under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act, stating that the president is not authorized to impose tariffs on imports.
The tariffs that the Supreme Court annulled include the global tariffs imposed by the "Trump" administration under the principle of reciprocity in April, as well as other tariffs related to drug smuggling into the United States.
The majority of the U.S. customs revenue collected last year came from tariffs imposed under the International Economic Emergency Powers Act.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported that it collected approximately $129 billion from tariffs imposed under the law from the time President "Donald Trump" took office until December 10.
