On the evening of Thursday, October 16, the most prestigious night of Asian football will take place in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The continent's eyes are on the AFC Awards 2025 ceremony in Riyadh, presented by NEOM, which is being held for the first time in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, celebrating the continent's stars and their most notable achievements during the past football season.
The ceremony will be held at the famous King Fahd Cultural Center, featuring a constellation of prominent sports figures and stars who will be honored across 20 different categories in the 29th edition of the continental event (formerly known as the AFC Annual Awards).
The ceremony will celebrate the most significant successes during the 2024-2025 season, which witnessed the launch of an enhanced version of the AFC Champions League and a historic kickoff for the AFC Women’s Champions League.
The event will also highlight the outstanding efforts made by the national and regional member associations of the AFC, alongside presenting the AFC President's Award for Excellence, which is being introduced for the first time.
The ceremony will culminate in the announcement of the winners of the Best Player and Best Player awards in Asia, with the men's category featuring the trio of Salem Al-Dawsari, Aref Ayman Hanbi, and Akram Afif, while the women's list includes Holly McNamara, Wang Shuang, and Hana Takahashi.
AFC President Sheikh Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa stated in a comment to the AFC website: "Efforts over the past 12 months have focused on strategic reforms that included the identity of the AFC and its competitions, so it is natural for us to adopt the same approach through a renewed identity for the most celebratory night in Asian football."
He added: "I am also pleased to announce the redesign of all awards and trophies, including the highest honor in the continent – the Asia Diamond – which will be presented to its deserving recipients in a new step that reflects the growing status of Asian football and its ongoing passion for development."
He further stated: "There is no place where the spirit of development in global football is more embodied than in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has transformed in recent years into a pivotal center for global football. On this occasion, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Saudi Football Federation and the leadership of the Kingdom for their warm hospitality and outstanding organizational capabilities."
Sheikh Salman concluded his statement by saying: "As we prepare to celebrate the men and women whose contributions have left a profound impact on future generations, I congratulate all the nominees and extend my heartfelt thanks to the national and regional member associations for their ongoing commitment to excellence and for inspiring us year after year through their efforts to achieve the common goals set forth by the vision and mission of the AFC."
During the ceremony, the winners in the following categories will be announced, with some other awards to be presented at a later special occasion:
- Best Young Player in Asia
- Best Young Player in Asia
