The Saudi national women's under-20 team concluded its historic first participation in the qualifiers for the 2026 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup with a valuable victory over the host team Bhutan, winning 2-1 in the match held today, Saturday, at the Changlimithang Stadium in the Bhutanese capital Thimphu, as part of the group stage finale.

The national team managed to dominate the course of the match and was able to score the first goal through Amira Abu Al-Samh, before Basma added the second goal, which secured the green team the points of the match.

The women's green team finished in third place in its group, which included the teams of North Korea, Nepal, and Bhutan, after winning against the host country Bhutan and losing to North Korea and Nepal. Although this is considered the first official participation of the national under-20 women's team since its establishment at the end of 2023, the national team showed an honorable level and promises a bright future for women's football. This participation is part of the Saudi Football Federation's efforts to expand women's participation and enhance the presence of national teams in regional and international forums.

For her part, the Vice President of the Saudi Football Federation, Lamia bint Ibrahim bin Bahyan, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the players and the technical and administrative staff, emphasizing that participation in the qualifiers represents an important step in building the team. She stated: "This experience forms a foundation that can be built upon in the coming stages, as part of a comprehensive vision for the development of women's football."

It is worth noting that the Saudi Football Federation always reaffirms its commitment to supporting women's teams through ongoing preparation programs, which enhance their competitive presence at both the continental and international levels.
