The Spanish Football Federation imposed a fine of 602 euros on FC Barcelona, following a complaint filed by Atlético Madrid, due to the Catalan club's communication with their Argentine striker Julián Álvarez during the last summer transfer window, without prior written notification to the Madrid club.
The penalty is based on Article 133 of the regulations of the Spanish Football Federation, while Atlético also filed a complaint with FIFA, which announced that it was not competent to consider the case, according to Reuters.
Álvarez's contract with Atlético Madrid extends until June 2030, but the player's desire to join Barcelona sparked controversy throughout the summer transfer window, especially after his statements during the 2026 World Cup, where he expressed his wish to fulfill his dream of playing for the Catalan club.
In an attempt to contain the anger of Atlético fans, Álvarez publicly apologized for his statements after scoring the only winning goal against Deportivo La Coruña last Saturday, marking his second consecutive game on the scoresheet and leading his team to close the gap to two points behind Barcelona, the league leaders.
Álvarez said in an interview after the match: "That was a mistake. I understand why the fans are angry. If I were a supporter, I would be angry too, especially considering the support they have given me since I arrived."
The Argentine striker has faced repeated boos from his team's fans during the current season, before receiving a warm applause from some sections of the stands after his recent goal, indicating an improvement in his relationship with the fans.
