في سابقة نادرة بتاريخ الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز، أعلن رسمياً أنَّ يوم الـ«بوكسينغ داي» هذا العام سيشهد إقامة مباراة واحدة فقط، تجمع مانشستر يونايتد بنيوكاسل يونايتد في 26 ديسمبر.
وأوضحت رابطة الدوري أن القرار جاء بسبب القيود المفروضة على الجدول الزمني، إذ يتعيّن عليها تخصيص 33 عطلة أسبوعية للمباريات، وبما أن يوم «البوكسينغ داي» يصادف يوم جمعة عام 2025، كان لا بد من هذا التعديل.
ووفقاً لما ذكرت شركة Opta، ستكون هذه أقصر فترة مباريات في هذا اليوم منذ عام 1982، حين لم تُقم أي مباراة. ومن المُقرّر أن يعود برنامج البوكسينغ داي الكامل في عام 2026.
ويحمل البوكسينغ داي ذكريات كبيرة وتقاليد تاريخية في الدوري الإنجليزي، إذ انطلق في موسم 1888 مع بداية الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز.
ويرتكز التقليد على أن تخوض الفرق كافة مبارياتها في اليوم ذاته.
In a rare precedent in the history of the Premier League, it has been officially announced that this year's "Boxing Day" will feature only one match, bringing together Manchester United and Newcastle United on December 26.
The league association clarified that the decision was made due to scheduling constraints, as it must allocate 33 weekends for matches, and since Boxing Day falls on a Friday in 2025, this adjustment was necessary.
According to what Opta reported, this will be the shortest match period on this day since 1982, when no matches were held. The full Boxing Day schedule is set to return in 2026.
Boxing Day carries significant memories and historical traditions in the Premier League, having started in the 1888 season with the inception of the Premier League.
The tradition is based on all teams playing their matches on the same day.
