علّق نائب رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم (فيفا)، فيكتور مونتالياني، على التصريحات الأخيرة للرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، بشأن احتمال نقل بعض مباريات كأس العالم 2026 من بعض مدن بلاده.
وقال مونتالياني، خلال مؤتمر للأعمال الرياضية عُقد أمس (الأربعاء) في لندن: «إنها بطولة تابعة للفيفا، وهي من اختصاص الفيفا، والفيفا يتخذ هذه القرارات».
وكان ترمب قد صرّح في وقت سابق بأنه في حال اعتُبرت بعض المدن غير آمنة لاستضافة المباريات، فإن المنافسات قد تُنقل إلى مدن أخرى، قائلاً: «إذا اعتقدت أن أي مدينة ليست آمنة لاستضافة مباريات كأس العالم، فسوف ننقل المنافسات إلى خارج تلك المدينة، لكنني آمل ألا يحدث ذلك».
ومن المقرر أن تستضيف الولايات المتحدة بطولة كأس العالم 2026، التي ستُقام بمشاركة 48 منتخباً، في صيف العام القادم، بتنظيم مشترك مع كندا والمكسيك.
يذكر أن المدن المضيفة الـ11 في الولايات المتحدة هي؛ أتلانتا، بوسطن، دالاس، هيوستن، كانساس سيتي، لوس أنجلوس، ميامي، نيويورك/نيوجيرسي، فيلادلفيا، سان فرانسيسكو، سياتل.
FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani commented on the recent statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of moving some matches of the 2026 World Cup from certain cities in the country.
Montagliani said during a sports business conference held yesterday (Wednesday) in London: "It is a tournament that belongs to FIFA, it is under FIFA's jurisdiction, and FIFA makes these decisions."
Trump had previously stated that if certain cities were deemed unsafe to host matches, the competitions could be moved to other cities, saying: "If I think any city is not safe to host World Cup matches, we will move the competitions out of that city, but I hope that doesn’t happen."
The United States is set to host the 2026 World Cup, which will feature 48 teams, next summer, in a joint organization with Canada and Mexico.
It is worth noting that the 11 host cities in the United States are: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle.
