خيّم الحزن على الوسط الرياضي في مصر، صباح اليوم (الجمعة)، بعد إعلان وفاة السباح الشاب جون ماجد، أحد أبطال السباحة من ذوي الهمم، في واقعة مأساوية فجّرت موجة غضب وتساؤلات واسعة حول إجراءات السلامة داخل الأندية.
كان جون (18 عاماً) نموذجاً للإصرار والتحدي. فهو شاب يعاني من اضطراب التوحّد، لكنه نجح في فرض اسمه داخل أحد الأندية الكبرى، قبل أن تتحول حصته التدريبية إلى مأساة أنهت حياته.
وفي منتصف ديسمبر الماضي، دخل جون حمام السباحة كعادته للتدريب، لكن أصيب فجأة بإعياء حاد وتشنجات عنيفة داخل المياه، أفقدته السيطرة على جسده، ليتعرض للغرق بعد ابتلاع كميات كبيرة من الماء.
وكشفت شهادات طبية وروايات شهود أن اللحظات الحاسمة مرت دون تدخل سريع وحاسم، فيما أكدت والدة السباح أن نجلها فقد وعيه أكثر من مرة أثناء التدريب، دون أن يتم إنقاذه بالشكل المطلوب.
ولم يتوقف الأمر عند هذا الحد. فخلال نقله إلى المستشفى، سقط جون من فوق المقعد المتحرك، ما تسبب في إصابة خطيرة بالرأس زادت من تدهور حالته العصبية.
وفي المقابل، أكدت مصادر طبية أن السباح وصل إلى المستشفى وقلبه متوقف تماماً. وبعد محاولات إنعاش استمرت نحو نصف ساعة، عاد النبض، لكن الأكسجين كان قد غاب لفترة طويلة عن المخ، ما أدى إلى توقف كامل في وظائفه الحيوية.
وداخل المستشفى، ظل جون موصولاً بأجهزة التنفس الصناعي في قسم العناية المركزة لمدة أسبوعين، في سباق مؤلم بين الأمل واليأس، قبل أن تُعلن وفاته اليوم، لتغلق صفحة مؤثرة في مسيرة شاب لم يُمنح فرصة النجاة.
رحيل جون لم يكن حادثةً معزولةً، فقبل أسابيع فقط، توفي السباح الناشئ يوسف محمد (12 عاماً) غرقاً خلال مشاركته في بطولة رسمية، ما فتح باب التحقيقات على مصراعيه وكشف خللاً خطيراً في منظومة الأمان.
وعلى خلفية هذه الوقائع، قرر الاتحاد المصري للسباحة تجميد نشاطه بالكامل، في خطوة غير مسبوقة، بينما دخلت وزارة الشباب والرياضة على خط الأزمة.
وفي هذا الإطار، قررت النيابة العامة المصرية بعد تحقيقات موسعة، إحالة رئيس وأعضاء مجلس إدارة اتحاد السباحة وعدد من المسؤولين إلى محاكمة جنائية عاجلة، بعد ثبوت وجود مخالفات جسيمة وتقصير مباشر ساهم في وقوع الحوادث دون إنقاذ فوري.
في المقابل، أعلنت وزارة الرياضة بدء التنسيق مع الاتحاد الدولي للألعاب المائية لتشكيل لجنة مؤقتة تتولى إدارة شؤون الاتحاد، إلى جانب مراجعة شاملة للملف بالكامل، لمنع تكرار الكارثة.
وبين دموع عائلة فقدت نجلها، وغضب رياضي متصاعد، تتكرر الأسئلة المؤلمة:
من يحمي اللاعبين؟
ومن يتحمل مسؤولية الأرواح التي تُزهق داخل المسابح؟
رحل جون ماجد.. لكن قضيته فتحت جرحاً عميقاً لن يُغلق بسهولة.
Sadness has cast a shadow over the sports community in Egypt this morning (Friday), following the announcement of the death of young swimmer John Majid, one of the champions of swimming with disabilities, in a tragic incident that sparked widespread anger and questions about safety measures within clubs.
John (18 years old) was a model of determination and challenge. He was a young man suffering from autism, but he managed to make a name for himself in one of the major clubs, before his training session turned into a tragedy that ended his life.
In mid-December, John entered the swimming pool as usual for training, but suddenly suffered from severe fatigue and violent convulsions in the water, losing control of his body, leading to drowning after swallowing large amounts of water.
Medical testimonies and eyewitness accounts revealed that the critical moments passed without swift and decisive intervention, while the swimmer's mother confirmed that her son lost consciousness multiple times during training, without being rescued as needed.
The situation did not stop there. While being transported to the hospital, John fell from the stretcher, causing a serious head injury that worsened his neurological condition.
In contrast, medical sources confirmed that the swimmer arrived at the hospital with a completely stopped heart. After resuscitation attempts lasting about half an hour, the pulse returned, but oxygen had been absent from the brain for a long time, leading to a complete cessation of its vital functions.
Inside the hospital, John remained connected to ventilators in the intensive care unit for two weeks, in a painful race between hope and despair, before his death was announced today, closing an impactful chapter in the life of a young man who was not given a chance to survive.
John's departure was not an isolated incident, as just weeks ago, young swimmer Youssef Mohamed (12 years old) drowned during his participation in an official championship, which opened the door to extensive investigations and revealed serious flaws in the safety system.
In light of these incidents, the Egyptian Swimming Federation decided to freeze all its activities, in an unprecedented move, while the Ministry of Youth and Sports entered the fray of the crisis.
In this context, the Egyptian Public Prosecution decided, after extensive investigations, to refer the president and members of the Board of Directors of the Swimming Federation and several officials to urgent criminal trial, after proving the existence of serious violations and direct negligence that contributed to the incidents without immediate rescue.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports announced the start of coordination with the International Aquatics Federation to form a temporary committee to manage the affairs of the federation, alongside a comprehensive review of the entire file, to prevent the recurrence of the disaster.
Amid the tears of a family that lost their son, and rising sports anger, painful questions are repeated:
Who protects the athletes?
And who bears the responsibility for the lives lost in the pools?
John Majid has passed away... but his case has opened a deep wound that will not close easily.
