Cosmin Olăroiu, the head coach of the UAE national football team, confirmed that his team is fully focused on physical and mental preparation ahead of the decisive match against the Qatari national team, scheduled for Tuesday at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium at Al Sadd Club, as part of the Asian playoff for the 2026 World Cup.
Olăroiu said during the press conference held today, Monday: "We have been working in the past few days on recovering the players to reach the best possible readiness before the match. We know we are facing an exceptional challenge by all standards, and we will give everything we have to achieve the dream of qualifying for the World Cup."
The Romanian coach added: "We have studied the Qatari national team closely. We know their strengths and style of play, and we realize that they have distinguished players with experience and quality, but we are completely confident in our players' ability to handle the challenge and deliver a great match."
Regarding the attendance of fans, Olăroiu expressed his dissatisfaction with the limited percentage of attendance allocated to UAE fans, saying: "The percentage should have been equal between the two teams, as the crowd represents an important motivation for the team on the field, and their presence gives the players extra energy."
Olăroiu explained that the coaching staff dealt with the short preparation period in the best possible way, adding: "The previous match against Oman was dramatic and emotionally impactful, but it gave us a strong morale boost. The players understand the magnitude of the responsibility on their shoulders, and my confidence in them is absolute."
In his comments on the officiating, the coach said: "We hope that the officiating will be up to the occasion and that the match will proceed with complete fairness. We know the Uzbek referee well, and we hope he delivers a balanced performance without any reasons for controversy after the match."
Olăroiu concluded his statements by emphasizing that the UAE national team's ambition does not stop at just one match: "Our goal is clear, which is to reach the World Cup. We do not want to jump ahead of events, as the task is not over yet. We must maintain our focus until the last moment, and only then can we think about celebrating."
The decisive match between Qatar and the UAE in Doha is considered the "real final" of the Asian playoff, as the winner will qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the loser will enter the global playoff for the Asian continent.
