The Egyptian Zamalek Club has encountered a new crisis added to its series of financial problems, following the former Portuguese coach of the first team, José Gomes, filing an official complaint with the International Football Federation "FIFA," demanding overdue payments for himself and his coaching staff.
This complaint came less than 48 hours after Zamalek announced its commitment to pay the amounts required of it in several pending cases before "FIFA," in a move aimed at lifting the restrictions imposed on player registrations.
According to local reports, Gomes is demanding a total of $120,000, which represents his overdue financial entitlements along with those of his assistants, for the period during which he led the team in the 2023-2024 season.
Gomes took over coaching Zamalek in February 2024, before announcing his departure after only ten months, following an offer from Al-Fateh Club in Saudi Arabia, where he paid the penalty clause resulting from the termination of his contract.
For his part, Zamalek board member Amr Adham confirmed that the club will communicate with the Portuguese coach to settle the matter amicably, in order to maintain the good relationship that existed between the two parties during the cooperation period.
Adham explained that the Zamalek administration, which has recently succeeded in closing complicated files with large amounts, is keen to resolve Gomes' crisis without entering into new legal disputes, and in a way that does not negatively affect the club's stability during this sensitive phase.
