وسط غموض متواصل حول مصيره، أكدت الولايات المتحدة أنها ترجّح أن يكون المرشد الإيراني مجتبى خامنئي لا يزال على قيد الحياة، في وقت أكد فيه الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب أنه حي، لكنه مصاب بجروح خطيرة.
ومنذ تعيينه مرشدًا لإيران في مارس الماضي، لم يظهر مجتبى خامنئي علنًا، وذلك بعد إصابته في الغارات التي أودت بحياة والده، المرشد الإيراني السابق علي خامنئي. وحتى مراسم تشييع والده، غاب مجتبى عن المشهد، ما أبقى مصيره محاطًا بعلامات استفهام.
ووجّه نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جي دي فانس رسالة حاسمة، داعيًا إيران إلى إظهار «سلوك مسؤول» إذا كانت تريد فتح الطريق أمام أي اتفاق، ومؤكدًا أن واشنطن ستبني سياستها تجاه إيران خلال الشهرين المقبلين على الأفعال لا التصريحات.
ويأتي ذلك فيما أعلن ترمب وجود مفاوضات جارية مع إيران عبر وسطاء، بالتزامن مع تحركات مكثفة للدفع نحو اتفاق يحد من احتمالات التصعيد.
Amid ongoing ambiguity about his fate, the United States confirmed that it believes Iranian leader Mojtaba Khamenei is still alive, while U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he is alive but seriously injured.
Since his appointment as the leader of Iran last March, Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly, following his injury in the airstrikes that killed his father, former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei. Even during his father's funeral, Mojtaba was absent from the scene, leaving his fate surrounded by question marks.
U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance sent a decisive message, urging Iran to show "responsible behavior" if it wants to pave the way for any agreement, emphasizing that Washington will base its policy towards Iran over the next two months on actions, not statements.
This comes as Trump announced ongoing negotiations with Iran through intermediaries, coinciding with intensive efforts to push for an agreement that limits the chances of escalation.
