The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms accused the Houthi militia on Monday of kidnapping 278 civilians in recent days across several Yemeni governorates, in connection with celebrations or preparations to celebrate the anniversary of the establishment of the Yemeni Republic.
The network stated that the Houthi militia carried out campaigns of kidnapping and pursuit against citizens based on their expression of national belonging and their celebration of the September 26 anniversary, noting that these campaigns were concentrated in Sana'a and the governorates of Hajjah, Amran, Dhamar, Ibb, Saada, Al-Mahwit, and Al-Hudaydah.
It pointed out that the kidnapping operations targeted citizens in various locations, including public roads, homes, mosques, and markets, indicating that militia members during some of these operations bound the victims and confiscated their phones and official documents before taking them to undisclosed detention locations.
The Yemeni Network for Rights and Freedoms held the Houthi militia fully responsible for the safety and fate of the kidnapped individuals, calling on international organizations and human rights entities to take urgent action to reveal their places of detention, work towards their release, and pressure to stop the kidnapping campaigns and violations related to commemorating national events in areas under militia control.
Yemeni media reported that the Houthis kidnapped 30 civilians in the Dhamar governorate alone, including 11 in the Al-Hada district, 8 from Ians, 6 from Atmah, 4 in Duran, and one citizen in the city of Dhamar, transferring them to an unknown location, indicating that their charges were raising the Yemeni flag and celebrating the national holiday.
