Gaitha Alaki, the wife of Moroccan artist Saad Lamjarred, broke her silence following the appellate ruling in France sentencing him to 10 years in prison in connection with the case accusing him of raping a French woman. She expressed her stance on the decision and revealed details she said she experienced with the artist's family during the years of the case.
Gaitha published a lengthy message on her official account on Instagram, in which she affirmed her belief in her husband's innocence, discussed the procedures he underwent over the past years, and raised questions about what she described as information and materials provided by the family to the authorities.
Adherence to Judicial Conditions
Saad Lamjarred's wife clarified that her husband remained under judicial supervision for nearly ten years, noting that he adhered to the imposed conditions, attended when requested, and was allowed to travel at different times before returning again.
She confirmed that the family cooperated with the relevant authorities throughout the duration of the case and provided whatever information and evidence they had when requested, considering that Saad's commitment to the imposed procedures stemmed from his respect for the law and his confidence in justice.
Financial Demands for Freedom
Gaitha addressed what she described as information received by the family regarding a demand for money in exchange for her husband's freedom, emphasizing that they treated the matter as one requiring investigation and scrutiny, especially since she asserted that the case, according to her narrative, did not include any forensic or material evidence to substantiate the accusations against him.
She stated that the family did not respond to the amount that was said to be required, adding: "We did not pay, and today he is in prison," expressing her feeling that the warnings and information provided by the family did not receive the attention she had expected.
"Where is the Justice?"
In conclusion, Gaitha posed several questions regarding what she described as alleged attempts to place a financial demand for her husband's freedom, as well as what she termed allegations related to discussions about money in exchange for changing testimonies.
She concluded her remarks by affirming that Saad Lamjarred remained committed to judicial supervision for years, attended whenever requested, and only left according to the permitted procedures, indicating that his repeated returns reflected his confidence in the judicial system and respect for the law.
