The Saudi national team is preparing to face Iraq tomorrow (Tuesday) at 8:30 PM at the Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, as part of the conclusion of the first group matches in the "Gulf 27" Cup. Coach Georgios Donis is inclined to rest several key players in order to utilize all the players before entering the semifinals.
Today (Monday), Donis is conducting a football drill to assess the readiness of his players and to determine the tactical style and formation he will use in the match. He will also hold a press conference to discuss the upcoming game and the condition of the "Green" players. Despite having secured qualification, the team aims to continue its positive results and maintain its lead in the group, as it currently tops the standings with 6 points, followed by Iraq with 4 points, Oman with 1 point, and Kuwait with no points.
On the other hand, Donis received another setback with the exclusion of defender Hassan Kadsh from the tournament roster, after medical examinations confirmed his unfitness and the need for a treatment and rehabilitation program due to a thigh injury. Kadsh is the third injured player in the camp, following goalkeeper Nawaf Al-Aqeedi.
The "Green" secured its place in the semifinals after defeating Oman with a clean sheet of three goals, in a match where they showcased remarkable technical levels, according to national coach Sultan Al-Saud, who noted Donis's success in selecting the lineup and utilizing the players, in addition to the effectiveness of counter-pressing and the speed of offensive transitions.
Al-Saud explained that the numerical advantage inside the penalty area, the quality of crosses, and the off-center movements contributed to confusing the Omani defense, while the pressure from Kanno and Alaa gave the team a greater ability to regain possession and transition quickly to attack.
He pointed out that the substitution of Alaa Haji in the second half created larger spaces in the depth, before Donis intervened by changing the formation to 4-4-2 to increase the pressure. Despite a decline in performance intensity with the substitutions, the "Green" maintained its superiority, finishing both matches with four goals scored without conceding any, while involving a large number of players, which provides the coaching staff with broader options before the semifinals.
