As Iranian leaders continue to threaten escalation, American sources revealed today (Monday) that mediators will hold talks with the U.S. and Iran today or tomorrow.
Reuters reported from the sources that mediators are expected to hold separate talks with the U.S. and Iran today or tomorrow, clarifying that the discussions will focus on a modified version of the seven-day proposal presented by Iran.
For its part, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) denied that Iran fully controls the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the claims of one of the Revolutionary Guard leaders are incorrect and that Iran does not possess naval power because U.S. forces have sunk it.
It was pointed out that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, evidenced by the passage of over a billion barrels of oil in recent months.
Meanwhile, British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that his country will stand against a nuclear Iran through economic sanctions and will take action against Tehran's proxies, indicating that Britain will continue to isolate Iran until it reopens the Strait of Hormuz.
He noted that isolating Iran is essential to address the cost of living crisis in Britain.
In contrast, the military advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader, Mohsen Rezaei, stated that if Washington starts a new war, it will open a new front against it, but he did not specify this front.
Amid U.S. sanctions and a blockade that has completely isolated Iran from the world after halting flights, the Iranian rial today recorded its lowest level ever against the dollar, exceeding the price of the American currency at 240,000 tomans in the free market (2.4 million rials), amid continued price increases and turmoil in the currency market.
Iranian media reported that the dollar reached around 240,000 tomans, while the euro was traded at 273,000 tomans and the British pound at 318,000 tomans.
The website "Bonbast," which specializes in tracking exchange rates, reported that the dollar was traded at about 2.45 million rials in the unofficial market in Tehran, while the official price at the central bank is around 1.5 million rials per dollar.
