طلبت إسرائيل من فريق عسكري بريطاني يعمل في الضفة الغربية مغادرتها خلال أسبوع، في خطوة قالت مصادر بريطانية إنها جاءت رداً على العقوبات التي فرضتها لندن على المستوطنات الإسرائيلية.
وكشفت المصادر، بحسب صحيفة «تلغراف»، أن السلطات الإسرائيلية كانت تراقب اتصالات الفريق بشكل مستمر، بما في ذلك التقارير التي أعدها حول اعتداءات المستوطنين والأوضاع الأمنية في الضفة الغربية، مشيرة إلى أن إسرائيل كانت تبحث منذ فترة عن مبرر لإنهاء وجوده، فيما لم يصدر تعليق رسمي إسرائيلي على هذه الاتهامات.
ويتمركز «فريق الدعم البريطاني» في رام الله، ويتولى تدريب وتقديم المشورة لقوات الأمن التابعة للسلطة الفلسطينية، إلا أن دوره توسع خلال السنوات الأخيرة ليصبح مصدراً مهماً للمعلومات الميدانية التي تعتمد عليها بريطانيا والولايات المتحدة بشأن التطورات الأمنية في الضفة، خصوصاً تصاعد عنف المستوطنين.
وكان الفريق يرفع تقارير دورية إلى لندن وواشنطن عبر مكتب المنسق الأمني الأمريكي، تتضمن تفاصيل عن الأوضاع الأمنية والاعتداءات على الفلسطينيين.
وجاء قرار الإبعاد قبل أسابيع من خطة لتوسيع مهمة الفريق، كان يفترض أن تؤدي إلى زيادة عدد أفراده أربعة أضعاف، مع انضمام عشرات الخبراء الأمنيين والعسكريين السابقين.
وشمل القرار أيضاً عدداً من العسكريين والدبلوماسيين البريطانيين المشاركين في دعم ترتيبات وقف إطلاق النار في غزة.
وفي تصعيد آخر، أمرت إسرائيل بإغلاق القنصلية البريطانية في القدس الشرقية خلال شهر، وسط تراجع متزايد في العلاقات بين لندن وتل أبيب على خلفية الخلافات بشأن المستوطنات والسياسات الإسرائيلية في الضفة الغربية.
Israel has requested that a British military team operating in the West Bank leave within a week, in a move that British sources said was in response to the sanctions imposed by London on Israeli settlements.
According to sources revealed by the "Telegraph," Israeli authorities had been continuously monitoring the team's communications, including the reports it prepared regarding settler attacks and the security situation in the West Bank, noting that Israel had been looking for a justification to end its presence, while no official Israeli comment on these accusations has been issued.
The "British Support Team" is based in Ramallah and is responsible for training and advising the Palestinian Authority's security forces, but its role has expanded in recent years to become an important source of field information relied upon by Britain and the United States regarding security developments in the West Bank, particularly the rise in settler violence.
The team submitted periodic reports to London and Washington through the American security coordinator's office, detailing the security situation and attacks on Palestinians.
The expulsion decision came weeks before a plan to expand the team's mission, which was supposed to lead to a fourfold increase in its personnel, with the addition of dozens of former security and military experts.
The decision also included a number of British military and diplomatic personnel involved in supporting ceasefire arrangements in Gaza.
In another escalation, Israel ordered the closure of the British consulate in East Jerusalem within a month, amid a growing deterioration in relations between London and Tel Aviv over disagreements regarding settlements and Israeli policies in the West Bank.
