رحب الأمين العام لجامعة الدول العربية نبيل فهمي بقرار المملكة المتحدة حظر التجارة في السلع المنتجة في المستوطنات الإسرائيلية غير القانونية، وبما عبرت عنه اثنتا عشرة دولة صديقة من اعتزامها اتخاذ خطوات مماثلة بفرض قيود على تجارة السلع مع المستوطنات غير القانونية بموجب القانون الدولي.
خطوة في الاتجاه الصحيح
وعدّ الأمين العام في بيان هذه الإجراءات التي تضمنها بيان واضح من تلك الدول، خطوة في الاتجاه الصحيح نحو التصدي لمنظومة الاستيطان الإسرائيلية غير القانونية، واستعادة نهج المحاسبة وعدم غض الطرف عن السلوك المارق لحكومة الاحتلال.
وشدد فهمي على أن الإجراءات الملموسة والعملية في مواجهة منظومة الاستيطان التي تستهدف تقويض حل الدولتين تعكس استشعار الأطراف كافة لخطورة التطورات الجارية في الأرض الفلسطينية المحتلة، بما في ذلك نظام الفصل العنصري الذي أقامه الاحتلال، وإطلاقه يد إرهاب المستوطنين ضد المدنيين الفلسطينيين العزل تحت حماية الحكومة الإسرائيلية وبتشجيع منها.
إجراءات عملية وملموسة
ودعا فهمي جميع الدول التي لا تزال تؤمن بالقانون الدولي وبحل الدولتين سبيلاً وحيداً لتسوية النزاع بين فلسطين وإسرائيل إلى الانضمام لهذا الموقف الشجاع الذي اتخذته المملكة المتحدة، والذي عبر عنه بوضوح بيان الدول الـ12، مؤكداً أن الإجراءات العملية والملموسة ضد منظومة الاستيطان العنصرية ستجعل الاحتلال يفكر في كلفة ممارساته غير الشرعية، بعد سنوات من غياب منطق المحاسبة والعقاب.
The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, welcomed the United Kingdom's decision to ban trade in goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements, as well as the intention expressed by twelve friendly countries to take similar steps by imposing restrictions on trade with illegal settlements under international law.
A Step in the Right Direction
The Secretary-General considered in a statement that these measures, which were clearly articulated in the statement from those countries, are a step in the right direction towards confronting the illegal Israeli settlement system and restoring a sense of accountability and not turning a blind eye to the rogue behavior of the occupying government.
Fahmy emphasized that tangible and practical measures against the settlement system, which aims to undermine the two-state solution, reflect the awareness of all parties regarding the seriousness of the ongoing developments in the occupied Palestinian territory, including the apartheid system established by the occupation and the unleashing of settler terrorism against unarmed Palestinian civilians under the protection and encouragement of the Israeli government.
Tangible and Practical Measures
Fahmy called on all countries that still believe in international law and in the two-state solution as the only way to resolve the conflict between Palestine and Israel to join this courageous stance taken by the United Kingdom, which was clearly expressed in the statement of the twelve countries. He affirmed that practical and tangible measures against the racist settlement system will make the occupation reconsider the cost of its illegal practices, after years of the absence of accountability and punishment.
