أعلنت الشرطة الباكستانية اليوم (الأحد) مقتل 14 شخصاً وإصابة أكثر من 20 آخرين في هجوم انتحاري خلال مظاهرة احتجاجية في إقليم سوات بشمال البلاد.
وقال نائب المفتش العام للشرطة في الإقليم فداء حسين: «فجَّر المهاجم سترته الناسفة ما أدى إلى مقتل عدد من الأشخاص بينهم 4 من عناصر الشرطة، وإصابة 20 آخرين»، مبيناً أن الانفجار وقع عند تقاطع مزدحم قرب مركز للشرطة في إقليم سوات أثناء احتجاج نظمه المجتمع المدني.
ولفت حسين إلى أن حالة عدد من المصابين حرجة، مضيفاً: «حاول انتحاري دخول مركز الشرطة الواقع عند التقاطع، ولكن تم اعتراضه عند البوابة الرئيسية».
ولم تعلن أي جهة مسؤوليتها عن الهجوم حتى الآن.
وكانت إحصائية عسكرية قد أكدت (الجمعة) أن هجمات المسلحين والعمليات الأمنية في باكستان التي تلتها أسفرت عن مقتل 819 شخصاً من عناصر الأمن والمدنيين خلال هذا العام.
وحمّلت باكستان سابقاً مسلحين متمركزين في أفغانستان مسؤولية هذه الهجمات في الولايات الحدودية، غير أن حكومة طالبان في كابل نفت هذا الأمر. واندلع نزاع مسلح بين كابل وإسلام آباد عقب الاتهامات المتبادلة بين البلدين.
The Pakistani police announced today (Sunday) that 14 people were killed and more than 20 others injured in a suicide attack during a protest demonstration in the Swat region of northern Pakistan.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in the region, Fida Hussain, stated: "The attacker detonated his explosive vest, resulting in the deaths of several individuals, including 4 police officers, and injuring 20 others," noting that the explosion occurred at a busy intersection near a police station in Swat during a protest organized by civil society.
Hussain pointed out that the condition of several of the injured is critical, adding: "The suicide bomber attempted to enter the police station located at the intersection, but was intercepted at the main gate."
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
A military report confirmed (on Friday) that militant attacks and security operations in Pakistan that followed resulted in the deaths of 819 security personnel and civilians this year.
Pakistan has previously blamed militants based in Afghanistan for these attacks in the border regions, although the Taliban government in Kabul denied this. Armed conflict erupted between Kabul and Islamabad following mutual accusations between the two countries.
