في أول زيارة رسمية لدمشق منذ الإطاحة بنظام بشار الأسد نهاية عام 2024، بحث وزير الخارجية العراقي فؤاد حسين مع نظيره السوري أسعد الشيباني، سبل التعاون في مختلف المجالات وتعزيز العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين، وفق ما أوردت وكالة الأنباء السورية (سانا)، اليوم (الإثنين).
وأفادت الخارجية العراقية بأنه من المقرر أن يجري الوزير سلسلة من اللقاءات مع كبار المسؤولين السوريين، لبحث سبل تعزيز العلاقات الثنائية بين العراق وسورية، وتطوير التعاون المشترك في مختلف المجالات السياسية والأمنية والاقتصادية والتجارية، بما يخدم المصالح المشتركة للبلدين.
وأضافت أن المباحثات تتناول مستجدات الأوضاع الإقليمية والدولية، وسبل تعزيز التنسيق والتشاور بين البلدين إزاء التحديات المشتركة، فضلاً عن مناقشة الجهود الرامية إلى تعزيز الأمن والاستقرار في المنطقة، وتطوير آليات التعاون الثنائي بما يحقق المصالح المتبادلة ويدعم الاستقرار الإقليمي.
ويتوقع أن تشهد الزيارة مباحثات حول عدد من الملفات بينها أمن الحدود، تسهيل التبادل التجاري، التعاون في مجالات الطاقة والنقل، وتطورات الأوضاع في المنطقة وانعكاساتها على البلدين.
وشدد وزير الخارجية العراقي أن بلاده تؤمن بأن الحوار والتعاون بين دول المنطقة يمثلان أساساً لترسيخ الأمن الإقليمي، وتعزيز الاستقرار، وخدمة المصالح المشتركة.
وتأتي الزيارة في وقت يشهد فيه البلدان تنسيقاً متزايداً في الملفات الأمنية، خصوصاً ما يتعلق بمكافحة تنظيم داعش الإرهابي، وتأمين الحدود المشتركة، والتصدي لعمليات التهريب، فضلاً عن تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي وإعادة تنشيط حركة التجارة والنقل بين الجانبين.
وكان رئيس الوزراء العراقي علي الزيدي بعث في العاشر من يونيو الجاري رسالة إلى الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع، أكد فيها أهمية تعزيز العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين وتوسيع مجالات التنسيق الأمني والاقتصادي.
وشهدت الفترة الأخيرة إعادة فتح عدد من المعابر البرية الرئيسية بين العراق وسورية بشكل تدريجي، عقب سقوط نظام الأسد ومتغيرات سياسية شهدتها سورية، مما يمهّد لمرحلة جديدة من التعاون الاقتصادي والتجاري بين البلدين.
In the first official visit to Damascus since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime at the end of 2024, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein discussed with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al-Shaibani ways to cooperate in various fields and enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, according to the Syrian News Agency (SANA) today (Monday).
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry reported that the minister is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with senior Syrian officials to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Iraq and Syria, and to develop joint cooperation in various political, security, economic, and commercial fields, in a manner that serves the common interests of the two countries.
It added that the discussions will address the latest developments in regional and international situations, and ways to enhance coordination and consultation between the two countries regarding common challenges, as well as discussing efforts aimed at strengthening security and stability in the region, and developing mechanisms for bilateral cooperation that achieve mutual interests and support regional stability.
The visit is expected to witness discussions on several issues, including border security, facilitating trade exchange, cooperation in the fields of energy and transportation, and the developments in the region and their implications for the two countries.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister emphasized that his country believes that dialogue and cooperation among the countries of the region are fundamental to establishing regional security, enhancing stability, and serving common interests.
The visit comes at a time when both countries are witnessing increased coordination on security issues, particularly regarding the fight against the terrorist organization ISIS, securing the shared borders, and combating smuggling operations, in addition to enhancing economic cooperation and revitalizing trade and transportation between the two sides.
Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi sent a letter to Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara on June 10, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and expanding areas of security and economic coordination.
Recently, several main land crossings between Iraq and Syria have been gradually reopened following the fall of the Assad regime and the political changes in Syria, paving the way for a new phase of economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.
