كشفت وزارة الأمن الداخلي الأمريكية عن مصادرة عشرات الطائرات المسيّرة منذ انطلاق منافسات كأس العالم في الولايات المتحدة مطلع الشهر الجاري، في إطار إجراءات أمنية مشددة تهدف إلى حماية الملاعب والجماهير من أي تهديدات محتملة.
وأوضحت الوزارة أن فرق مكافحة الطائرات المسيّرة، بالتعاون مع أجهزة إنفاذ القانون المحلية والجهات الفيدرالية، نجحت في رصد واعتراض عدد كبير من الطائرات التي دخلت مناطق حظر الطيران المحيطة بالملاعب المستضيفة للمباريات، وفي بعض الحالات، تم إسقاط الطائرات ومصادرتها بالكامل.
وأكد متحدث باسم وزارة الأمن الداخلي أن فرق مواجهة الطائرات المسيّرة تعمل بشكل مكثف لتأمين المباريات في 8 من أصل 11 ملعبًا تستضيف البطولة.
ولم توضح السلطات ما إذا كانت أي من الطائرات المضبوطة تحمل متفجرات أو أجهزة يمكن استخدامها في تنفيذ أعمال تخريبية، كما لم تقدم تفاصيل إضافية بشأن طبيعة التهديدات المحتملة.
وفي تطور لافت، أعلن مدير مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالي (FBI) كاش باتيل، أن السلطات أحبطت، مؤخرًا، مخططًا لاستهداف فعالية خاصة للرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب في البيت الأبيض باستخدام طائرات مسيّرة محملة بمواد متفجرة.
كما كشف باتيل أن المكتب ألقى القبض على مهاجر غير مصرح له بالإقامة في الولايات المتحدة بعد تشغيله طائرة مسيّرة بالقرب من منطقة مخصصة لمشجعي البطولة في مدينة أتلانتا.
ووفقًا للبيانات الرسمية، سجلت السلطات بين 11 و16 يونيو ما مجموعه 145 حالة اختراق للمجال الجوي المحظور حول ثمانية ملاعب في مدن أتلانتا ودالاس وهيوستن وكانساس سيتي وسياتل وبوسطن وسان فرانسيسكو وفيلادلفيا.
وأشارت الوزارة إلى نجاح السلطات في التعامل مع 55 طائرة مسيّرة عبر إجراءات فنية وأمنية مختلفة، فيما تمت مصادرة 39 طائرة أخرى بشكل مباشر.
وتصدرت مدينة أتلانتا قائمة المدن الأكثر تسجيلًا للحوادث، بعدما رصدت السلطات 36 اختراقًا للمجال الجوي المحظور قرب الفعاليات الرياضية، وتمكنت من التعامل مع 20 منها ومصادرة 11 طائرة.
وشاركت في عمليات الرصد والتصدي عدة جهات فيدرالية؛ من بينها هيئة الجمارك وحماية الحدود، وجهاز الحماية الفيدرالية، وخفر السواحل الأمريكي.
من جانبه، أقر وزير الأمن الداخلي الأمريكي ماركواين مولين -خلال جلسة استماع بالكونغرس- بأن السلطات لا تزال تواجه تحديات في مواكبة التطور السريع لتقنيات الطائرات المسيّرة، رغم الاستثمارات الكبيرة التي ضُخت في هذا المجال.
وقال مولين إن الولايات المتحدة أنفقت موارد مالية وتقنية ضخمة لتعزيز قدراتها الهجومية باستخدام الطائرات المسيّرة، إلا أن أنظمة التصدي لهذه الطائرات ما زالت بحاجة إلى مزيد من التطوير، مشيرًا إلى أن معظم الجهات الأمنية حول العالم ما زالت متأخرة نسبيًا في هذا الجانب.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed the seizure of dozens of drones since the start of the World Cup competitions in the United States earlier this month, as part of heightened security measures aimed at protecting stadiums and fans from any potential threats.
The department explained that drone countermeasure teams, in collaboration with local law enforcement and federal agencies, successfully detected and intercepted a large number of drones that entered the no-fly zones surrounding the stadiums hosting the matches, and in some cases, the drones were shot down and completely seized.
A spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the drone countermeasure teams are working intensively to secure the matches in 8 out of the 11 stadiums hosting the tournament.
The authorities did not clarify whether any of the seized drones were carrying explosives or devices that could be used to carry out sabotage activities, nor did they provide additional details regarding the nature of the potential threats.
In a notable development, FBI Director Kash Patel announced that authorities recently thwarted a plot to target a special event for President Donald Trump at the White House using drones loaded with explosive materials.
Patel also revealed that the bureau arrested an undocumented immigrant in the United States after he operated a drone near an area designated for fans of the tournament in Atlanta.
According to official data, authorities recorded a total of 145 airspace violations between June 11 and 16 around eight stadiums in the cities of Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Seattle, Boston, San Francisco, and Philadelphia.
The department noted the success of authorities in dealing with 55 drones through various technical and security measures, while 39 other drones were seized directly.
Atlanta topped the list of cities with the most recorded incidents, as authorities detected 36 airspace violations near sporting events, managing to deal with 20 of them and seizing 11 drones.
Several federal agencies participated in the monitoring and response operations, including Customs and Border Protection, the Federal Protective Service, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
For his part, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas acknowledged during a congressional hearing that authorities are still facing challenges in keeping up with the rapid evolution of drone technologies, despite the significant investments made in this area.
Mayorkas stated that the United States has spent substantial financial and technical resources to enhance its offensive capabilities using drones, but the systems to counter these drones still need further development, noting that most security agencies around the world are still relatively behind in this aspect.
