أكّد رئيس الحكومة اللبنانية نواف سلام ضرورة تكثيف الجهود الدبلوماسية لتحقيق وقف إطلاق النار، وقال: «ما شهدناه ليس مجرّد توسيع وعبور إسرائيليّ، فإسرائيل لا تستهدف مواقع محددة بل تعتمد سياسة تدمير شامل وما تقوم به ليس فقط انتهاكًا لسيادة لبنان بل عملية محو للتاريخ والذاكرة».
وأضاف سلام في كلمة ألقاها من السراي اليوم (السبت): «مصمّمون على وقف الحرب وتحصين بلدنا وعدم تحويله إلى صندوق بريد وساحة مفتوحة لصراعات الآخرين»، مشدداً بالقول: «هذه الحرب لم تكن خيارنا بل فُرضت علينا، ونحن مصمّمون على تحصين بلدنا وحماية مستقبل أبنائنا فيه، فنحول دون تحويله مجدّداً إلى صندوق بريد لرسائل إقليمية أو دولية، ومن هنا ذهبنا إلى المفاوضات. هي ليست مضمونة النتائج وليست استسلاماً بل الخيار الأقل كلفة على بلدنا، والدولة تقود المفاوضات اليوم باسم جميع اللبنانيين ويبقى قرار الحرب والسلم قراراً وطنياً».
وأوضح سلام أنّ «طريق التفاوض ليس سهلاً لكنّه سيكون أسرع إذا توحّد الجميع تحت مظلة الدولة».
وتوجّه سلام إلى أهالي الجنوب قائلاً: «لستم وحدكم، ووجعكم هو وجع كلّ لبنان، وثِقوا بأنّ الدولة اللبنانية لن تألو جهداً لتحقيق وقف إطلاق النار والانسحاب الإسرائيلي الكامل وعودة الأهالي إلى منازلهم بأمان، وإعادة الإعمار».
The Lebanese Prime Minister, Nawaf Salam, emphasized the necessity of intensifying diplomatic efforts to achieve a ceasefire, stating: "What we have witnessed is not merely an Israeli expansion and incursion; Israel does not target specific sites but rather adopts a policy of total destruction. What it is doing is not only a violation of Lebanon's sovereignty but an act of erasing history and memory."
Salam added in a speech delivered from the Grand Serail today (Saturday): "We are determined to stop the war and fortify our country, preventing it from becoming a mailbox and an open arena for the conflicts of others," stressing: "This war was not our choice; it was imposed on us, and we are determined to fortify our country and protect the future of our children in it, preventing it from being turned once again into a mailbox for regional or international messages. Hence, we have turned to negotiations. They are not guaranteed to yield results and are not a surrender, but rather the least costly option for our country. The state is leading the negotiations today on behalf of all Lebanese, and the decision of war and peace remains a national decision."
Salam clarified that "the path of negotiation is not easy, but it will be quicker if everyone unites under the umbrella of the state."
He addressed the people of the south, saying: "You are not alone, and your pain is the pain of all Lebanon. Trust that the Lebanese state will spare no effort to achieve a ceasefire, complete Israeli withdrawal, the safe return of families to their homes, and reconstruction."
