The mourning ceremonies for the former Yemeni president, Marshal Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, continued today (Friday) between Riyadh and Aden, in a scene that reflected the extent of the late leader's stature in Yemeni political life. Officials and Yemeni leaders agreed that his departure represents a loss for one of the most prominent defenders of the state, the republican system, and constitutional legitimacy.

The mourning ceremonies came hours after the funeral of the late president in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, where he was laid to rest in the Al-Oud cemetery following prayers at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque, amidst wide official and popular attendance.

Riyadh Hosts Mourning for Yemeni Leadership

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, and council members, along with the brother, son, and family of the late president, received crowds of mourners in Riyadh.

The mourning council witnessed the presence of members of the Presidential Leadership Council, including Tariq Saleh, Sultan Al-Aradah, Othman Majali, Abdullah Al-Alimi, and former Vice President Major General Ali Mohsen Al-Ahmar, in addition to the heads of the House of Representatives and the Shura Council, as well as several ministers, senior officials, and social figures.

Aden Welcomes Mourners

Simultaneously with the mourning council in Riyadh, the city of Aden hosted official mourning ceremonies, where member of the Presidential Leadership Council Major General Mahmoud Al-Sabihi and Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Sha'if Al-Zandani received crowds of mourners at the Aden Mall hall.

The mourning ceremonies witnessed wide attendance from political and military leaders, social figures, and citizens who gathered to pay their respects to the late president.

Al-Alimi: We Lost One of Yemen's Prominent Figures

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, renewed his expression of deep sorrow over the departure of former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, affirming that Yemen has lost one of its most prominent figures and leaders whose names were associated with defending the state, the republican system, and national constants during the most difficult stages the country has faced.

He stated that Hadi led Yemen in exceptionally complex circumstances and managed to maintain regional and international recognition of the Yemeni state and its legitimate institutions, as well as overseeing the comprehensive national dialogue conference, which was a pivotal moment in modern Yemeni political history.

He added that the late president will remain present in the hearts of Yemenis for what he represented in supporting constitutional legitimacy, the unity of Yemen, and the federal state project.

“A National Leader” and Supporter of Legitimacy

Al-Alimi described the late president as “an exceptional national leader and statesman,” who possessed wisdom and patience and bore responsibility in the darkest circumstances, affirming that he sincerely aligned with the aspirations of Yemenis for freedom, dignity, and equal citizenship.

He noted that Hadi remained, until his last days, a believer in the unity and sovereignty of Yemen, defending constitutional legitimacy and the just federal state project.

Funeral Prayer and Official Mourning

In Yemeni provinces, a funeral prayer for the late president was held in several cities, with member of the Presidential Leadership Council Salem Ahmed Al-Khanbashi leading the prayer in Hadhramaut, while prayers were also held in Taiz, Shabwa, and Aden.

The Yemeni presidency announced an official mourning period of three days, with flags at half-mast and the opening of condolence registers inside and outside Yemen, in tribute to the late president's journey and his role in defending the state and legitimacy during one of the most complicated phases in the country’s modern history.
