رغم وجود أزمة ثقة بين أمريكا وحلف شمال الأطلسي (الناتو)، أعلن رئيس مؤتمر ميونيخ للأمن وولفجانج إيشينجر اليوم (الإثنين) أن وزير الخارجية الأمريكي ماركو روبيو سيشارك في المؤتمر على رأس وفد أمريكي كبير.
وقال إيشينجر في مؤتمر صحفي في برلين: «من المتوقع حضور أكثر من 50 عضواً من الكونغرس الأمريكي، من بينهم النائبة الديموقراطية ألكسندريا أوكاسيو-كورتيز»، مبيناً أن 15 من رؤساء الوزراء أو الدول من الاتحاد الأوروبي سيحضرون المؤتمر، الذي سيفتتحه المستشار الألماني فريدريش ميرتس (الجمعة) ويستمر حتى الأحد.
وقال رئيس مؤتمر ميونيخ للأمن: «العلاقات عبر الأطلسي تمر بأزمة ثقة ومصداقية كبيرة حالياً، ولهذا السبب، يسعدني ما يبديه الجانب الأمريكي من اهتمام قوي بميونيخ».
وفي رده على سؤال عما إذا كان يتوقع هجوماً من روبيو مماثلاً لهجوم نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جي دي فانس العام الماضي على أوروبا، قال إيشينجر: «أتوقع أن يتحدث روبيو عن السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية وليس عن قضايا لا تدخل مباشرة في نطاق اختصاصه»، موضحاً أن إحدى قضايا المؤتمر الرئيسية ستكون قدرة أوروبا مستقبلاً على إثبات نفسها بقوة أكبر عن طريق قدراتها الخاصة والوحدة.
وأشار إيشينجر إلى أن وزير الخارجية الفلسطيني ومسؤولين إسرائيليين سيحضرون، وأن زعيمة المعارضة الفنزويلية ماريا كورينا ماتشادو ستشارك عبر الإنترنت.
ومن المتوقع أن يرأس الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي وفد بلاده، وذلك قبل قليل من حلول الذكرى الرابعة للحرب الروسية الأوكرانية.
Despite the ongoing crisis of trust between the United States and NATO, Wolfgang Ischinger, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, announced today (Monday) that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will participate in the conference leading a large American delegation.
Ischinger stated at a press conference in Berlin: "More than 50 members of the U.S. Congress are expected to attend, including Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez," noting that 15 heads of government or states from the European Union will attend the conference, which will be opened by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (on Friday) and will continue until Sunday.
Ischinger said: "Transatlantic relations are currently experiencing a significant crisis of trust and credibility, which is why I am pleased with the strong interest shown by the American side in Munich."
In response to a question about whether he expected an attack from Rubio similar to the attack by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance on Europe last year, Ischinger said: "I expect Rubio to speak about U.S. foreign policy and not about issues that do not fall directly within his jurisdiction," explaining that one of the main issues of the conference will be Europe's future ability to assert itself more strongly through its own capabilities and unity.
Ischinger pointed out that the Palestinian Foreign Minister and Israeli officials will attend, and that Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado will participate online.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to lead his country's delegation, just before the fourth anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
