كشفت وسائل إعلام عبرية عن تقديم القنصلية العامة الإيطالية في القدس شكوى رسمية عاجلة إلى الحكومة الإسرائيلية على خلفية حادثة خطيرة وقعت يوم الأحد في قرية نعمة قرب رام الله بالضفة الغربية المحتلة، حيث أجبر مستوطن إسرائيلي مسلح ضابطين من الكارابينييري الإيطاليين على الركوع تحت تهديد السلاح واستجوبهما.
وكان الضابطان اللذان يعملان لدى القنصلية يقومان بمهمة استطلاع ميداني تحضيراً لزيارة سفراء الاتحاد الأوروبي للقرية، عندما أوقفهما مستوطن إسرائيلي، ووجه بندقية آلية نحوهما، مما أجبرهما على الركوع وخضعا لاستجواب مرتجل حول سبب وجودهما في المنطقة.
رغم تقديم الضابطين بطاقتيهما الدبلوماسيتين وبطاقتي التعريف الصادرة عن وزارة الخارجية الإسرائيلية، وكونهما يستقلان سيارة دبلوماسية مميزة، استمر المسلح في تهديدهما، حتى عاد الضابطان سالمين إلى القنصلية وأبلغا الواقعة فوراً.
وأعربت القنصلية الإيطالية في بيان رسمي عن «قلقها البالغ» إزاء الحادث، مؤكدة أن الضابطين كانا يحملان جوازين دبلوماسيين وبطاقتَي تعريف إسرائيليتين رسميتين، وقدمت مذكرة احتجاج إلى وزارة الخارجية الإسرائيلية، والجيش الإسرائيلي، والشرطة، والشاباك.
من جانبها، استدعت وزارة الخارجية الإيطالية سفير إسرائيل في روما لتقديم احتجاج رسمي وطلب توضيحات، ووصفت الواقعة بأنها «خطيرة للغاية» و«غير مقبولة على الإطلاق»، خصوصاً أنها طالت أفراداً يتمتعون بحصانة دبلوماسية.
وأثارت الحادثة توتراً دبلوماسياً بين إيطاليا وإسرائيل، وسط انتقادات أوروبية متزايدة لتصرفات المستوطنين في الضفة الغربية، وتأكيد إيطاليا على ضرورة احترام الوضع القانوني للدبلوماسيين والعاملين القنصليين.
Hebrew media reported that the Italian consulate general in Jerusalem has filed an urgent official complaint with the Israeli government following a serious incident that occurred on Sunday in the village of Ni'lin near Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, where an armed Israeli settler forced two Italian carabinieri officers to kneel at gunpoint and interrogated them.
The two officers, who work for the consulate, were conducting a field reconnaissance mission in preparation for a visit by European Union ambassadors to the village when they were stopped by an Israeli settler, who pointed an automatic rifle at them, forcing them to kneel and subjecting them to an impromptu interrogation about the reason for their presence in the area.
Despite presenting their diplomatic IDs and official identification cards issued by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and being in a marked diplomatic vehicle, the armed man continued to threaten them until the officers returned safely to the consulate and reported the incident immediately.
The Italian consulate expressed its "serious concern" regarding the incident in an official statement, confirming that the officers were carrying diplomatic passports and official Israeli identification cards, and submitted a note of protest to the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Israeli army, the police, and the Shin Bet.
For its part, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Israeli ambassador in Rome to present an official protest and request clarifications, describing the incident as "extremely serious" and "absolutely unacceptable," particularly as it involved individuals enjoying diplomatic immunity.
The incident has sparked diplomatic tension between Italy and Israel, amid increasing European criticism of the actions of settlers in the West Bank, and Italy's insistence on the necessity of respecting the legal status of diplomats and consular staff.
