أعلنت الشرطة الجنوب أفريقية، اليوم (الأحد)، مقتل 10 أشخاص على الأقل وإصابة 10 آخرين في هجوم مسلح وقع في بلدة بيكرسدال، الواقعة على بعد نحو 40 كيلومتراً جنوب غرب جوهانسبرغ.
ويُعد هذا الحادث ثاني عملية إطلاق نار جماعي تشهدها البلاد خلال شهر ديسمبر الجاري، فيما أفادت الشرطة بأن الدافع وراء الهجوم غير معروف حتى الآن، مشيرة إلى أن مهاجمين مجهولين وصلوا في مركبتين وأطلقوا النار على رواد حانة غير رسمية، ثم استمروا في إطلاق النار بشكل عشوائي أثناء فرارهم من المكان، وكان من بين الضحايا سائق سيارة أجرة إلكترونية كان ينتظر خارج الحانة.
الحادثة وقعت في ساعات الصباح الباكر قرب حانة «كوانوكسولو» في منطقة فقيرة ببيكرسدال، التي تقع بالقرب من بعض أكبر مناجم الذهب في جنوب أفريقيا، وتم نقل المصابون إلى المستشفيات لتلقي العلاج، فيما أطلقت الشرطة عملية مطاردة واسعة النطاق للجناة.
وتأتي هذه الواقعة بعد أسابيع قليلة فقط من حادث مشابه وقع في 6 ديسمبر، حيث اقتحم مسلحون نزلاً قرب العاصمة بريتوريا، مما أسفر عن مقتل 12 شخصاً، بينهم طفل يبلغ من العمر ثلاث سنوات، في موقع يُباع فيه الكحول بشكل غير قانوني.
وتعاني جنوب أفريقيا من مستويات عالية من الجريمة المنظمة، حيث تُشكل العصابات والمنافسة بين الأعمال غير الرسمية عوامل رئيسية في انتشار عمليات إطلاق النار، مما يجعل البلاد واحدة من أعلى الدول في معدلات القتل حول العالم.
The South African police announced today (Sunday) that at least 10 people were killed and 10 others injured in a shooting attack that occurred in the town of Bekkersdal, located about 40 kilometers southwest of Johannesburg.
This incident marks the second mass shooting the country has experienced during the current month of December, while the police reported that the motive behind the attack is still unknown. They noted that unidentified attackers arrived in two vehicles and opened fire on patrons of an informal tavern, then continued to shoot randomly while fleeing the scene. Among the victims was an e-hailing taxi driver who was waiting outside the tavern.
The incident occurred in the early morning hours near the "Kwanoxolo" tavern in a poor area of Bekkersdal, which is located near some of the largest gold mines in South Africa. The injured were transported to hospitals for treatment, while the police launched a large-scale manhunt for the perpetrators.
This incident comes just a few weeks after a similar event that took place on December 6, when gunmen stormed an inn near the capital Pretoria, resulting in the deaths of 12 people, including a three-year-old child, at a site where alcohol is sold illegally.
South Africa suffers from high levels of organized crime, with gangs and competition among informal businesses being key factors in the prevalence of shootings, making the country one of the highest in the world for murder rates.
