The Lebanese President Joseph Aoun called for support for the Lebanese army to continue its work and for pressure on Israel to withdraw from the south.

Implementation of the Ceasefire

During a meeting with a delegation of ambassadors and representatives of the United Nations Security Council in Beirut today (Friday), he affirmed "Lebanon's commitment to implementing international resolutions," and said, "We need to push the Israeli side to implement the ceasefire and withdraw, and we look forward to pressure from your side."

The Lebanese presidency stated in a statement on the "X" platform that the Security Council delegation expressed its support for stability in Lebanon through the implementation of international resolutions, and conveyed the readiness of the member states of the council to assist in supporting the Lebanese army and completing its deployment and implementing the exclusivity of arms.

He pointed out that Lebanon is working with the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) at all levels and is coordinating with the Ceasefire Monitoring Mechanism (the mechanism), but emphasized Lebanon's need to push the Israeli side to implement the ceasefire.

Lift Sanctions on Syria

For his part, the U.S. envoy to Syria and Lebanon, Tom Barak, expressed hope that Israel would not expand its attacks on Lebanon, calling on Lebanon to discuss the "Hezbollah issue" with Israel.

He expressed, in statements during his participation in a panel discussion in Abu Dhabi today, his hope for the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria, known as the "Caesar sanctions."

Desire for a Solution

The U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, Michel Aissa, praised both Lebanon and Israel for what he described as a "courageous decision" to open a channel for dialogue at this sensitive moment, referring to the meetings of the "Military Technical Committee" in the town of Naqoura on Wednesday, which saw the participation of Lebanese and Israeli officials.

He stated that this step indicates a sincere desire to seek peaceful and responsible solutions based on good faith, emphasizing that "sustainable progress can only be achieved when both sides feel that their concerns are respected and their hopes acknowledged." He considered that "consensus, understanding, and principled leadership remain essential."

The U.S. ambassador welcomed the Lebanese government's decision to adopt dialogue after decades of uncertainty, considering it a constructive step towards defining pathways that may one day allow both countries to coexist in peace, respect, and dignity.

He added, "As the U.S. ambassador to Lebanon, I reaffirm our commitment to supporting all efforts that promote peace, stability, and security."
