وألقت الشرطة الأمريكية القبض على جيريمي واين شويميكر، 33 عامًا، من بلدة نيدام في مقاطعة كلارك، بعد مداهمة منزله واكتشاف ترسانة أسلحة تشمل حقيبة مليئة بالذخيرة، درعًا واقيًا للجسم، وأسلحة أخرى، وفقًا لمكتب عمدة مقاطعة كلارك.

The federal and local authorities in the state of Alabama, USA, announced today the thwarting of a plot for an armed attack on multiple Jewish temples in the state and neighboring states, as well as on public figures, in a swift security operation that may have prevented a mass catastrophe.
Diverse Weapons
American police arrested Jeremy Wayne Shoemaker, 33, from the town of Needham in Clarke County, after raiding his home and discovering an arsenal of weapons including a bag full of ammunition, a bulletproof vest, and other weapons, according to the Clarke County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation began when the federal investigative agency received notifications about "credible violent threats" against Jewish temples in Alabama and states like Mississippi and Florida, authorities reported in an official statement.
The county sheriff's office stated, "The suspect was planning not to surrender alive, and he had a clear intent to shoot at the police," noting that Shoemaker sustained bruises while resisting arrest. Investigations also revealed evidence of planning to target public figures, but authorities did not disclose their identities for ongoing investigation reasons.
Philip Insler, director of the Central Alabama Jewish Federation, stated in a media remark that "this threat reminds us of a long history of violence against Jews, and we are grateful to the police who stood by our community." The Jewish Federation in Birmingham confirmed that there is no current threat but emphasized the strengthening of security measures at temples and cultural centers.
According to American media, Shoemaker, who faces local charges of resisting arrest and possession of prohibited weapons, is expected to face additional federal charges related to racial threats and planning hate crimes.
In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the United States, especially following the outbreak of tensions in the Middle East and the Israeli war on Gaza in October 2023.
According to the 2024 report by the International Anti-Defamation League, anti-Semitic incidents in the United States rose by 140% compared to the previous year, with over 10,000 incidents recorded, including threats and assaults on Jewish temples and communities.
This increase is partially linked to global political tensions, as Jewish temples have become common targets for extremists. In Alabama, a southern state with a relatively small Jewish community (about 8,000 people), incidents have been limited, but the recent arrest highlights the national threat.
