أكدت أمريكا ومصر أهمية التوصل إلى وقف فوري ودائم لإطلاق النار في السودان، وضرورة الحفاظ على وحدة السودان وسلامة أراضيه ومؤسساته الوطنية، بما يصون مقدرات الشعب السوداني ويحقق تطلعاته في الأمن والاستقرار، وكذلك أهمية توحيد المؤسسات الليبية.
جاء ذلك خلال اتصال هاتفي، مساء الإثنين، بين وزير الخارجية الدكتور بدر عبدالعاطي وكبير مستشاري الرئيس الأمريكي للشؤون العربية والشرق الأوسط والمستشار رفيع المستوى للشؤون الأفريقية مسعد بولس، لبحث تطورات الأوضاع في السودان وليبيا.
وذكر المتحدث باسم وزارة الخارجية المصرية السفير تميم خلاف، أن الاتصال تطرق إلى مستجدات الأزمة الليبية، إذ شدد الجانبان على أهمية توحيد المؤسسات الليبية تمهيداً لإجراء الانتخابات التشريعية والرئاسية، بما يحقق تطلعات الشعب الليبي في الاستقرار والتنمية.
واتفق الجانبان على مواصلة التنسيق والتشاور بشأن الجهود الإقليمية والدولية ذات الصلة، ومتابعة مساعي المبعوثة الأممية إلى ليبيا للتوصل إلى حل سياسي شامل يحقق التوافق بين جميع الأطراف الليبية.
The United States and Egypt affirmed the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Sudan, and the necessity of preserving Sudan's unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions, in a way that safeguards the capabilities of the Sudanese people and fulfills their aspirations for security and stability, as well as the importance of unifying Libyan institutions.
This came during a phone call on Monday evening between Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty and the Senior Advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs and the Senior Advisor for African Affairs, Massad Boulos, to discuss developments in the situations in Sudan and Libya.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf mentioned that the call addressed the latest developments in the Libyan crisis, as both sides emphasized the importance of unifying Libyan institutions in preparation for legislative and presidential elections, in a way that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and development.
Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation regarding relevant regional and international efforts, and to follow up on the efforts of the UN envoy to Libya to reach a comprehensive political solution that achieves consensus among all Libyan parties.
