وسط تصاعد التوتر بين البلدين بين واشنطن وكراكاس، اعتبرت الحكومة الفنزويلية، اليوم (الاثنين)، رسو سفن حربية أمريكية في ترينيداد وتوباجو، «استفزازاً عسكرياً» في خطوة تعكس تصعيد الضغط العسكري الذي تمارسه إدارة الرئيس دونالد ترمب على الرئيس نيكولاس مادورو.
ووفق وكالة «أسوشيتد برس»، فقد وصلت المدمرة USS Gravely (يو إس إس جرافلي)، المجهزة بصواريخ موجهة، إلى البلد الواقعة في منطقة الكاريبي، بالتزامن مع اقتراب حاملة الطائرات USS Gerald R. Ford (يو إس إس جيرالد فورد) من السواحل الفنزويلية.
حرب أبدية جديدة
وانتقد الرئيس الفنزويلي تحركات حاملة الطائرات الأمريكية، واصفاً إياها بمحاولة «افتعال حرب أبدية جديدة» ضد بلاده. واتهم ترمب نظيره الفنزويلي، بأنه «يقود عصابة الجريمة المنظمة المعروفة باسم ترين دي أراوجا».
من جانبها، أكدت السلطات في ترينيداد وتوباجو والولايات المتحدة أن السفينة الحربية ستبقى في البلاد حتى، الخميس، بهدف تنفيذ تدريبات مشتركة بين الجانبين.
وتجري حالياً مناورات عسكرية مشتركة بين الولايات المتحدة وترينيداد وتوباجو في منطقة البحر الكاريبي، وقالت فنزويلا إنها قبضت على مجموعة من المرتزقة «تلقت معلومات مباشرة من الاستخبارات الأمريكية، وكان هدفها تنفيذ هجوم خادع في المنطقة».
ولم يقدم البيان، الذي أصدرته نائبة الرئيس الفنزويلي ديلسي رودريجيز، مزيداً من التفاصيل أو الأدلة على اتهامات «الهجوم الخادع».
قاذفتان ثقيلتان قرب فنزويلا
وأرسلت الولايات المتحدة قاذفتين ثقيلتين قرب ساحل فنزويلا بعد نحو أسبوع من قيام مجموعة أخرى من القاذفات الأمريكية برحلة مماثلة كجزء من تمرين تدريبي لـ«محاكاة هجوم».
وينفذ الجيش الأمريكي منذ أوائل سبتمبر ضربات ضد قوارب في المياه قبالة فنزويلا، يقول ترمب إنها «تُهرب المخدرات» إلى الولايات المتحدة.
وأسفرت الغارات في منطقة البحر الكاريبي عن سقوط 32 شخصاً على الأقل، لكن واشنطن لم تقدم سوى تفاصيل قليلة، مثل عدد المخدرات المزعومة التي كانت السفن المستهدفة تحملها أو الأدلة المحددة التي لديها تشير إلى أنها كانت تحمل مخدرات.
وجدد ترمب التأكيد على خططه لقصف أهداف برية في فنزويلا، ما يُعدّ تصعيداً، وقال إنه في حال اتخاذ هذه الخطوة، فمن المرجح أن تُبلغ إدارته الكونغرس، في وقت نفى مادورو أي تورط في تهريب المخدرات، ودان الضربات الأمريكية باعتبارها «انتهاكات للسيادة الفنزويلية».
تجنب جنون الحرب
ومع تصاعد التوتر بين واشنطن وكراكاس، دعا الرئيس الفنزويلي الولايات المتحدة إلى تجنب «جنون الحرب» مع بلاده، قائلاً: «لا لجنون الحرب».
وأتى تصريح مادورو بعد أن أعلن ترمب إنه فوّض بتنفيذ عمليات سرية ضد فنزويلا، في ظل تصاعد حملة عسكرية أمريكية ضد مهربي مخدرات في الكاريبي والمحيط الهادئ.
وسمح ترمب لوكالة الاستخبارات المركزية CIA بتنفيذ عمليات داخل فنزويلا، كما تدرس إدارته توجيه ضربات برية مع سعي بعض مساعدي ترمب إلى الإطاحة بمادورو، وفق الوكالة الأمريكية.
Amid rising tensions between the two countries, Washington and Caracas, the Venezuelan government considered today (Monday) the docking of U.S. warships in Trinidad and Tobago as a "military provocation," in a move that reflects the escalation of military pressure exerted by President Donald Trump's administration on President Nicolás Maduro.
According to the Associated Press, the USS Gravely, a guided-missile destroyer, arrived in the Caribbean nation, coinciding with the approach of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier to the Venezuelan coasts.
New Eternal War
The Venezuelan president criticized the movements of the U.S. aircraft carrier, describing them as an attempt to "fabricate a new eternal war" against his country. Trump accused his Venezuelan counterpart of "leading a gang of organized crime known as Tren de Aragua."
For its part, the authorities in Trinidad and Tobago and the United States confirmed that the warship would remain in the country until Thursday to conduct joint exercises between the two sides.
Joint military maneuvers are currently taking place between the United States and Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean, and Venezuela stated that it had captured a group of mercenaries "who received direct information from U.S. intelligence, and their goal was to carry out a deceptive attack in the region."
The statement issued by Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez did not provide further details or evidence regarding the accusations of the "deceptive attack."
Heavy Bombers Near Venezuela
The United States sent two heavy bombers near the coast of Venezuela about a week after another group of American bombers made a similar flight as part of a training exercise to "simulate an attack."
Since early September, the U.S. military has been conducting strikes against boats in the waters off Venezuela, which Trump claims are "smuggling drugs" into the United States.
The raids in the Caribbean have resulted in at least 32 casualties, but Washington has provided only limited details, such as the amount of alleged drugs that the targeted vessels were carrying or specific evidence indicating that they were carrying drugs.
Trump reiterated his plans to bomb ground targets in Venezuela, which constitutes an escalation, stating that if this step is taken, his administration is likely to inform Congress, while Maduro denied any involvement in drug trafficking and condemned the American strikes as "violations of Venezuelan sovereignty."
Avoiding War Madness
As tensions rise between Washington and Caracas, the Venezuelan president called on the United States to avoid "war madness" with his country, saying: "No to war madness."
Maduro's statement came after Trump announced that he had authorized covert operations against Venezuela amid an escalating U.S. military campaign against drug traffickers in the Caribbean and the Pacific.
Trump allowed the CIA to carry out operations inside Venezuela, and his administration is considering directing ground strikes as some of Trump's aides seek to overthrow Maduro, according to the American agency.
