عينت الخارجية الأمريكية، اليوم (الجمعة)، السفير الحالي لدى اليمن ستيفن فاجين، قائداً مدنياً لمركز جديد معني بتنفيذ اتفاق السلام في غزة وإدخال المساعدات الإنسانية إلى القطاع الفلسطيني.
الإعلان الأمريكي، جاء عقب زيارة وزير الخارجية ماركو روبيو لمركز التنسيق المدني العسكري في جنوب تل أبيب، وتعهده بانضمام المزيد من الدبلوماسيين الأمريكيين إلى نحو 200 جندي أمريكي هناك.
يتمتع فاجين بخبرة دبلوماسية واسعة، إذ شغل مناصب في بغداد وأربيل وبروكسل وغيرها. ويعمل كسفير في اليمن من خارج البلاد، نظراً للأوضاع في صنعاء، وسيطرة جماعة الحوثيين على العاصمة.
الدبلوماسي الأمريكي يتحدث اللغة العربية، والكردية، والروسية.
وانضم فاجين إلى السلك الدبلوماسي الأمريكي عام 1997، وشغل العديد من المناصب المهمة، في الولايات المتحدة، منها مدير مكتب الشؤون الإيرانية في وزارة الخارجية (2015–2018)، ومكتب الشؤون الإقليمية في مكتب شؤون جنوب ووسط آسيا (2013–2015)، وشغل منصب مساعد نائب وزير الخارجية بالإنابة عام 2015.
وشغل منصب نائب رئيس البعثة في السفارة الأمريكية بالعاصمة العراقية بغداد بين عامي 2020 و2021، والقنصل العام في أربيل. وعمل في كازاخستان، البوسنة والهرسك، بيلاروسيا، جورجيا، ومصر.
وزار وزير الخارجية الأمريكي، اليوم، مركز التنسيق المدني العسكري الذي افتتح من قبل القيادة المركزية الأمريكية (CENTCOM) في17 أكتوبر الحالي، بقيادة الفريق أول باتريك فرانك، قائد القوات البرية الأمريكية في المنطقة.
يضم المركز حوالى 200 جندي أمريكي متخصصين في اللوجستيات والهندسة والأمن، ويقع بالقرب من مدينة كريات جات شمال شرق غزة.
ويتولى المركز مهمات مراقبة اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار في غزة، وتنسيق جهود الإغاثة وتوزيع المساعدات، فضلاً عن إعادة إعمار القطاع المنكوب.
The U.S. State Department appointed the current ambassador to Yemen, Stephen Fagin, today (Friday) as the civilian leader of a new center dedicated to implementing the peace agreement in Gaza and facilitating humanitarian aid into the Palestinian territory.
The American announcement came following Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to the Civil-Military Coordination Center in southern Tel Aviv, where he pledged to send more American diplomats to join the approximately 200 U.S. soldiers stationed there.
Fagin has extensive diplomatic experience, having held positions in Baghdad, Erbil, Brussels, and elsewhere. He serves as ambassador to Yemen from outside the country due to the situation in Sana'a and the control of the Houthi group over the capital.
The American diplomat speaks Arabic, Kurdish, and Russian.
Fagin joined the U.S. diplomatic service in 1997 and has held several important positions in the United States, including Director of the Iranian Affairs Office at the State Department (2015–2018) and the Regional Affairs Office in the South and Central Asia Bureau (2013–2015). He also served as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in 2015.
He was the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, from 2020 to 2021, and served as the Consul General in Erbil. He has worked in Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Georgia, and Egypt.
Today, the U.S. Secretary of State visited the Civil-Military Coordination Center, which was opened by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on October 17, led by General Patrick Frank, the commander of U.S. ground forces in the region.
The center includes about 200 American soldiers specialized in logistics, engineering, and security, and is located near the city of Kiryat Gat, northeast of Gaza.
The center is tasked with monitoring the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, coordinating relief efforts, distributing aid, and overseeing the reconstruction of the affected territory.
