The Syrian Ministry of Interior dismantled a cell belonging to the terrorist organization ISIS today (Saturday) in the Rural Damascus Governorate in the south of the country, arresting one of its members and eliminating two others.
The ministry stated in a statement that "the General Intelligence Directorate, in cooperation with the Internal Security Forces in the Rural Damascus Governorate, carried out a precise security operation," adding: "The execution of the operation came after careful field monitoring and continuous surveillance of the movements of a terrorist cell belonging to the ISIS organization, which was active in one of the northern areas of the governorate."
The ministry clarified that the operation resulted in the arrest of one member of the cell, while two others were killed, one of whom was attempting to detonate an explosive belt he was wearing. Additionally, individual weapons, various ammunition, and an explosive belt prepared for detonation were found at the raid site.
The ministry indicated that the weapons and seized items were completely confiscated, and the detainee was referred to the relevant authorities to complete the investigations and take the necessary legal actions against him, noting that the operation is part of its proactive approach to combat terrorism and dry up its sources, highlighting the high readiness of the Syrian security forces to confront any attempts that threaten the security of the homeland and its citizens.
For his part, the head of internal security in Idlib, Brigadier General Ghassan Muhammad Bakir, explained the dismantling of an ISIS cell in the Harem area, which occurred during a qualitative security operation, clarifying that the special task unit seized during the operation a weapons depot containing explosive vests, prepared explosive devices, sniper rifles, light machine guns, and mortar shells, along with a workshop dedicated to manufacturing and rigging, and all seized items were confiscated.
