فيما يشبه «أجواء الحرب»، نفذت قوات الهجرة الأمريكية الفيدرالية سلسلة مداهمات غير مسبوقة في شيكاغو، استخدمت خلالها طائرات مروحية وغازات كيميائية، في تحرك أحال الأحياء إلى «مناطق حرب» وأجج التوترات في ثالث أكبر مدن الولايات المتحدة، بحسب ما وصف سكان ومسؤولون محليون.
اندلاع العنف وزيادة التوتر
ووفق وكالة الأنباء الأمريكية، فإن العمليات شملت إنزالاً من مروحيات على مجمع سكني، بينما كانت العائلات نائمة، واستخدمت مواد كيميائية قرب مدرسة عامة، وتقييد عضو في مجلس مدينة شيكاغو بالأصفاد داخل أحد المستشفيات.
وقال ناشطون وسكان إن «هذه الأساليب العدائية على نحو متزايد التي يستخدمها ضباط الهجرة الفيدراليون تؤدي إلى اندلاع العنف وزيادة حدة التوتر داخل الأحياء السكنية».
فيما قال حاكم ولاية إلينوي جي بي بريتسكر في مقابلة مع شبكة CNN، أمس (الأحد): «هم من يحولونها إلى ساحة حرب. يطلقون قنابل الغاز المسيل للدموع والدخان، ويجعلون الأمر يبدو وكأنه ساحة حرب».
مداهمات واعتقالات
واعتقل أكثر من 1,000 مهاجر منذ بدء حملة المداهمات الشهر الماضي في منطقة شيكاغو، وتعهدت إدارة الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب بنشر قوات من الحرس الوطني ضمن خطتها لتكثيف عمليات الترحيل.
وحسب تقرير الوكالة، فإن من بين المعتقلين مواطنون أمريكيون ومهاجرون يتمتعون بوضع قانوني وأطفال، في مواجهات «قاسية وعدوانية على نحو متزايد» تحدث بشكل يومي في المدينة التي يبلغ عدد سكانها 2.7 مليون نسمة، وضواحيها.
وركزت المداهمات على الأحياء ذات الكثافة السكانية العالية من المهاجرين واللاتينيين، لكن عملية نفذت الثلاثاء الماضي، استهدفت حي «ساوث شور» ذي الأغلبية السمراء، الذي شهد، أخيراً، تدفقاً محدوداً لمهاجرين أعيد توطينهم في شيكاجو أثناء سعيهم للحصول على اللجوء.
شاحنات وطائرات مروحية
ولجأ العملاء إلى استخدام شاحنات مجهولة وطائرة مروحية لتطويق مبنى سكني مكون من 5 طوابق، وأفادت شبكة News Nation، التي وُجهت إليها دعوة لمتابعة العملية، بأن العملاء «هبطوا بالحبال من طائرات بلاك هوك» وبعد ذلك، طرق العملاء أبواب الشقق واحداً تلو الآخر، وأيقظوا السكان، واستخدموا أربطة بلاستيكية لتقييدهم. وقال سكان وتحالف «إلينوي لحقوق المهاجرين واللاجئين»، إن بين المقيدين أطفالاً ومواطنين أمريكيين.
وأصدر الحاكم الديمقراطي بريتسكر، توجيهات لوكالات حكومية بالتحقيق في مزاعم تفيد بأن أطفالاً قُيدوا وأُبعدوا عن ذويهم، مؤكداً أن الأساليب العسكرية لا ينبغي أن تُستخدم ضد الأطفال.
ودعا عدد من أعضاء الكونغرس الديمقراطيين عن إلينوي إلى وقف المداهمات خلال اجتماعهم قرب الموقع.
عصابة «ترين دي أراجوا»
من جانبها، أعلنت وزارة الأمن الداخلي أنها كانت تستهدف أفراداً مرتبطين بعصابة «ترين دي أراجوا» Tren de Aragua. وأوضحت أن «بعض المستهدفين يشتبه بتورطهم في الاتجار بالمخدرات وتوزيعها، وارتكاب جرائم أسلحة، وانتهاك قوانين الهجرة»، من دون تقديم تفاصيل حول الاعتقالات أو توضيح كيفية معاملة الأطفال.
ونشرت وزيرة الأمن الداخلي كريستي نويم، مقاطع فيديو «مُعدلة بشكل كبير» على منصة «إكس» أظهرت العملاء وهم يقتحمون الأبواب، وتظهر فيها طائرات مروحية وبالغون مقيدون بأربطة بلاستيكية، مع موسيقى على معظم لقطات المقطع الذي استمر نحو دقيقة.
غاز مسيل وقنابل دخان
وتكرر استخدام المواد الكيميائية خلال الأسبوع الماضي، فبعد أن كانت تُستخدم في البداية للسيطرة على المتظاهرين، لجأ إليها العملاء هذا الأسبوع في شوارع المدينة وأثناء عمليات المداهمة، بحسب التحالف الحقوقي.
وتجاوز عدد البلاغات الواردة إلى الخط الساخن المخصص لرصد أنشطة عملاء الهجرة 800 اتصال.
واتهمت النائبة الديمقراطية ليليان خيمينيز، وكالة إنفاذ قوانين الهجرة والجمارك بأنها تتصرف كأنها «جيش غازٍ» في أحيائنا، وقالت إن المروحيات حلقت فوق منازلنا، وأرعبت العائلات، وأخلت بسلم مجتمعنا. وأكدت أن هذه الأفعال غير القانونية لا تنتهك الدستور فحسب، بل تمس حقاً أساسياً: «العيش بحرية من الاضطهاد والخوف».
In what resembles a "war atmosphere," U.S. federal immigration forces carried out an unprecedented series of raids in Chicago, using helicopters and chemical gases, in a move that turned neighborhoods into "war zones" and heightened tensions in the third-largest city in the United States, according to local residents and officials.
Outbreak of Violence and Increased Tension
According to the American news agency, the operations included a helicopter drop on a residential complex while families were asleep, the use of chemical substances near a public school, and the restraining of a Chicago City Council member with handcuffs inside a hospital.
Activists and residents stated that "these increasingly aggressive tactics used by federal immigration officers are leading to outbreaks of violence and escalating tensions within residential neighborhoods."
Meanwhile, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker said in an interview with CNN yesterday (Sunday): "They are the ones turning it into a war zone. They are deploying tear gas and smoke bombs, making it look like a battlefield."
Raids and Arrests
More than 1,000 immigrants have been arrested since the start of the raid campaign last month in the Chicago area, and the administration of President Donald Trump has pledged to deploy National Guard troops as part of its plan to intensify deportation efforts.
According to the agency's report, among those arrested are American citizens, immigrants with legal status, and children, in "harsh and increasingly aggressive confrontations" occurring daily in the city with a population of 2.7 million and its suburbs.
The raids focused on neighborhoods with high immigrant and Latino populations, but an operation carried out last Tuesday targeted the predominantly Black "South Shore" neighborhood, which has recently seen a limited influx of resettled immigrants in Chicago as they seek asylum.
Trucks and Helicopters
Agents resorted to using unmarked trucks and a helicopter to surround a five-story residential building. News Nation, which was invited to follow the operation, reported that agents "descended by ropes from Black Hawk helicopters," and then knocked on the doors of apartments one by one, waking residents and using plastic ties to restrain them. Residents and the "Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights" stated that among those restrained were children and American citizens.
Democratic Governor Pritzker issued directives to government agencies to investigate allegations that children were restrained and separated from their parents, emphasizing that military tactics should not be used against children.
A number of Democratic members of Congress from Illinois called for a halt to the raids during their meeting near the site.
Tren de Aragua Gang
For its part, the Department of Homeland Security announced that it was targeting individuals linked to the "Tren de Aragua" gang. It clarified that "some of the targets are suspected of involvement in drug trafficking and distribution, committing weapons crimes, and violating immigration laws," without providing details about the arrests or clarifying how children were treated.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen posted "heavily edited" videos on the platform X showing agents breaking down doors, featuring helicopters and adults restrained with plastic ties, accompanied by music over most of the footage, which lasted about a minute.
Tear Gas and Smoke Bombs
The use of chemical substances was repeated last week; after initially being used to control protesters, agents resorted to them this week in the streets of the city and during the raids, according to the rights coalition.
The number of reports received by the hotline designated to monitor immigration agents' activities exceeded 800 calls.
Democratic Representative Lilian Jimenez accused the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency of acting as if it were an "invading army" in our neighborhoods, stating that helicopters flew over our homes, terrifying families, and disrupting the peace of our community. She emphasized that these illegal actions not only violate the Constitution but also infringe upon a fundamental right: "to live free from persecution and fear."
