قُتل شخص وأصيب 9 آخرون، اليوم (الأحد)، في إطلاق نار وإشعال النيران بكنيسة تابعة لطائفة المورمون بولاية ميشيغان الأمريكية، بحسب الشرطة التي أكدت أن المشتبه به يبلغ من العمر 40 عاماً، ومن مدينة مجاورة.
ورفض قائد الشرطة الشرطة المحلية وليام ريني تحديد دوافع الجريمة، لكنه أكد أن المشتبه به قاد سيارته عبر أبواب الكنيسة الأمامية ومن ثم راح يطلق النار على الناس بسلاح أوتوماتيكي.
إضرام النار في الكنيسة
وأشار إلى أن مئات الأشخاص كانوا في الكنيسة يشاركون في القداس، مبيناً أن مطلق النار أضرم النيران عمداً في الكنيسة قبل أن ترديه عناصر الشرطة قتيلاً.
وأظهرت لقطات صورت في المكان أجهزة الطوارئ تنقل أشخاصاً على حمالات، فضلاً عن أعمدة دخان تتصاعد من الكنيسة في مدينة غراند بلانك، ووصف الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب، الهجوم بـ«المروع» وكتب عبر منصة «تروث سوشال»: «يبدو أنه هجوم آخر يستهدف المسيحيين في الولايات المتحدة».
وذكرت وسائل إعلام أمريكية أن عشرات الجرحى جرى نقلهم إلى المستشفى وتوفي أحدهم متأثراً بجروحه.
تحقيقات لمعرفة الدوافع
وأفاد مسؤول في الطوارئ أن الحريق أُخمد، مشيراً إلى احتمال العثور على مزيد من الضحايا، فيما كتب مدير مكتب التحقيقات الفيدرالية كاش باتيل على حسابه في «X» أن عناصره انتشرت للمساعدة في التحقيق.
وذكرت وسائل إعلام أمريكية أن الكنيسة تقع في غراند بلانك، على بُعد حوالى 80 كيلومتراً شمال ديترويت، ومحاطة بموقف سيارات ومساحة خضراء واسعة.
وأعربت حاكمة ولاية ميشيغان، غريتشن ويتمر، عن حزنها الشديد على مجتمع غراند بلانك، موضحة أن العنف في أي مكان، وخصوصاً في أماكن العبادة، أمر غير مقبول.
A person was killed and 9 others were injured today (Sunday) in a shooting and arson at a Mormon church in Michigan, according to police who confirmed that the suspect is 40 years old and from a neighboring city.
Local police chief William Reny refused to specify the motives behind the crime, but he confirmed that the suspect drove his car through the church's front doors and then opened fire on people with an automatic weapon.
Arson at the Church
He noted that hundreds of people were in the church participating in the mass, indicating that the shooter intentionally set fire to the church before being shot dead by police officers.
Footage taken at the scene showed emergency responders transporting individuals on stretchers, as well as columns of smoke rising from the church in Grand Blanc. U.S. President Donald Trump described the attack as "horrific" and wrote on the platform "Truth Social": "It appears to be another attack targeting Christians in the United States."
U.S. media reported that dozens of the injured were taken to the hospital, and one of them died from their injuries.
Investigations to Determine Motives
An emergency official reported that the fire has been extinguished, indicating the possibility of finding more victims, while FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on his "X" account that his agents have been deployed to assist in the investigation.
U.S. media mentioned that the church is located in Grand Blanc, about 80 kilometers north of Detroit, and is surrounded by a parking lot and a large green space.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her deep sorrow for the Grand Blanc community, stating that violence anywhere, especially in places of worship, is unacceptable.
