أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب وفاة الناشط المحافظ تشارلي كيرك، الذي فارق الحياة متأثراً بجراحه عقب حادث إطلاق نار خلال فعالية أقيمت بولاية يوتا. وأعرب ترمب، عبر منصة «تروث سوشال»، عن حزنه العميق لفقدان كيرك، واصفاً إياه بأنه شخصية ملهمة استطاعت التأثير في جيل الشباب الأمريكي، مؤكداً مكانته الخاصة لديه ولدى قطاع واسع من المحافظين.
دوافع الهجوم
كيرك، البالغ من العمر 30 عاماً، كان المؤسس والرئيس التنفيذي لمنظمة «تيرنينغ بوينت يو إس إيه»، أحد أبرز الكيانات المحافظة الموجهة للشباب في الولايات المتحدة. ووفقاً لبيان صادر عن المنظمة، فقد تعرّض كيرك لهجوم مسلح أثناء مشاركته في مناظرة داخل حرم جامعة يوتا فالي، حيث أصيب بطلقة في رقبته، فيما هرع الحاضرون إلى الهرب وسط حالة من الفوضى.
وتشير تقارير إعلامية إلى أن منفذ الاعتداء ليس من طلاب الجامعة، وقد تم اعتقاله فور الحادث. وأكدت صحيفة «نيويورك تايمز» أن مطلق النار أطلق الرصاصة من مبنى يبعد نحو 200 متر عن مكان انعقاد الفعالية، بينما لم تُعرف بعد دوافع الهجوم.

الواقعة أثارت جدلاً واسعاً في الأوساط السياسية الأمريكية، خصوصاً أن كيرك عُرف بكونه من أبرز حلفاء الرئيس ترمب وأحد الأصوات المؤثرة في أوساط المحافظين الشباب. كما سبقت الحادث عريضة إلكترونية، وقّعها نحو ألف شخص، طالبت بمنع مشاركته في الفعالية الجامعية، ما أضفى مزيداً من الجدل حول طبيعة الهجوم وأبعاده السياسية المحتملة.

Media reports indicate that the assailant was not a student at the university and was arrested immediately after the incident. The "New York Times" confirmed that the shooter fired the bullet from a building about 200 meters away from the event location, while the motives behind the attack remain unknown.

The incident sparked widespread controversy in American political circles, especially since Kirk was known to be one of President Trump's prominent allies and an influential voice among young conservatives. Prior to the incident, an online petition signed by about a thousand people called for his participation in the university event to be banned, adding further controversy regarding the nature of the attack and its potential political implications.
